Transformational Technologies Building a Better World

About us

For nearly five decades, the Robotic Industries Association (RIA), AIA-Advancing Vision + Imaging (AIA), and the Motion Control and Motors Association (MCMA), along with A3 Mexico, have played a key role in helping automation technologies become among the most critical tools of the 21st Century. As these technologies have converged, our association has had a convergence of its own. We are now the Association for Advancing Automation (A3), one trade group for the entire automation ecosystem. We invite you to join us in our mission to change the world for the better. Who We Are - A3 is North America’s largest automation trade association representing more than 1,200 organizations involved in robotics, artificial intelligence, machine vision & imaging, motion control & motors and related automation technologies. Our Mission - A3 is THE global advocate for the benefits of automating. We promote automation technologies and ideas that transform the way business is done. Since our founding in 1974 as a robotics association, we have become the trusted resource for companies looking for valuable education and information on how to successfully automate. What We Do - A3 sponsors trade shows, conferences and other networking events, hosts the leading global website on automation technologies, collects industry statistics and generates market research, develops consensus standards, provides certification programs, hosts webinars and podcasts, and engages in a wide variety of other educational activities. We are the voice of the automation industry to policy makers, the news media, and the general public, advocating on behalf of our members throughout the world.

I'm heading to my first A3 Business Forum next month, eager to connect in person again with my colleagues in automation and network with some new (at least to me!) business and technology innovators making things happen in the industry! What are your top tips for a successful show? What should I not miss? BTW, I'm not a golfer, but if anyone needs a fourth person, and you don't mind a beginner, I might just join you! And I do plan to be up bright and early Tuesday morning for the "friendly" 5k walk/run! See you there?

  • Here's where AI really lets you dream. Jake Hall has used AI to come up with a visual for a Skilled Trades Lego set — that would go over well with this crowd. He's also linked to a few similar items already available. Fun!

🎁 Get your 𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐬 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐦𝐚𝐬 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭! 🎁 Why not celebrate Christmas with a #SkilledTrades themed LEGO set? It has welders, electricians, robot programmers, CNC programmers, machinists, and more! The cool thing is that some companies and organizations started making LEGO-themed sets to celebrate their industry! I'll link a few in the comments so you can check them out! I learned a lot from Jim Fan of NVIDIA at the Humanoids Summit and his insights left me thinking deeply about the future of robotics. Here’s a quick summary of the key takeaways: 1. Why Humanoids? The labor crisis is far more severe than most people realize—and it’s accelerating. Over $1.7 trillion of economic output is lost annually because of positions that simply cannot be filled. Humanoids offer a promising solution to fill this growing gap. 2. Humanoids the Ultimate Test Case Nvidia believes solving the humanoid problem means solving all the subsets of robotics, such as AMRs combined with robotic arms. Humanoids, by their nature, are the most challenging robotics problem—and cracking this code unlocks advancements for all forms of automation. 3. Tackling the Toughest First: The Generalist Principle Nvidia’s Project GROOT, named after their ambitious initiative, applies the “generalist principle.” The idea is simple but profound: focus on solving the hardest, most general problem first—humanoid functionality in unstructured environments. By addressing this, Nvidia is paving the way for specialized robotics to thrive. 4. Lessons from ChatGPT Before ChatGPT, we relied on a patchwork of specialized AI solutions. Then came a generalist model that could adapt to countless use cases—and revolutionized AI. Similarly, Nvidia is applying this same principle to humanoid robotics. The goal? To create adaptable, intelligent humanoids that can perform a wide range of tasks in unpredictable settings. ATI Industrial Automation and Celera Motion, A Novanta Company support the advancements of robotics. Visit us at the Humanoids Summit. #robotics #humanoids

BIG news in the world of FreightTech….Could another Trump term invite innovation in the freight industry? Another Trump term could mean the dismantling of the 2023 executive order on AI, giving way for automation and more incentive to invest in the future of FreightTech… To invest in the future of the world. AI is the most powerful tool that the freight industry holds in its hands, and understanding it and utilizing it is the only way to stay ahead. But the U.S. has been falling behind, and Jeff Burnstein of the A3 - Association for Advancing Automation Automation urges the President-elect “To reclaim US leadership in automation and robotics, we believe our country needs a national strategy, one that not only supports automation technology innovation but clearly addresses the serious supply chain problem of providing a sufficient workforce.” As more begin to realize the potential AI has for the freight industry, we will see more calls to action around legislation and technology.
