Haitian Protestant Christianity:
Its Development, Social Functions, and Diasporic Dimensions
Edited by Drs. Celucien L. Joseph and Bertin M. Louis, Jr.
Haitian Protestantism represents a rich tapestry of faith traditions that have flourished amidst a backdrop of socio-political challenges and cultural resilience in Haiti and the Haitian diaspora. From its early roots in the colonial era to its dynamic present-day expressions globally, Haitian Protestantism has undergone significant transformations influenced by historical events, migration patterns, and indigenous religious practices. This book, tentatively titled Haitian Protestant Christianity: Its Development, Social Functions, and Diasporic Dimensions, seeks to provide a comprehensive exploration of culture, historical development, theological diversity, and political dimensions of Haitian Protestantism, both within Haiti and its diaspora communities across the United States, Latin America, France, Canada, the Caribbean, and beyond. It aims to uncover the major forces and events that have shaped Haitian Protestantism over time, highlighting its evolution, progress, and distinct theological currents within key denominations such as Haitian Adventists, Haitian Baptists, Haitian Methodists, Haitian Nazarenes, Haitian Pentecostals, and more.
We invite scholars and researchers to submit papers for an upcoming edited volume that will explore these various aspects of Haitian Protestantism. This volume aims to provide a comprehensive examination of Haitian Protestantism's evolution within Haiti and its diaspora communities across various global regions. We seek contributions that analyze the major forces (cultural, socio-economic, political), events, and theological currents that have shaped Haitian Protestant Christianity over time. Its aim is to contribute to scholarly discourse while appealing to a broader audience interested in the Caribbean, transnational, and religious studies, and Protestant and Christian studies.
