A big topic of conversation was the clear shift toward more service-focused care in community pharmacies and how automation can help make that transition smoother. Lots of exciting ideas and insights shared! We were delighted that Alexander Liechtenstein President of Pharmathek - Automation Technologies was able to join us for the event too and provide input from his vast experience with dispensing robots. On Thursday we held our fourth Annual Awards event to celebrate our members’ achievements. It was amazing to see the level of interest in this event 😊. We are humbled to hear all the positive feedback from pharmacy owners and stakeholders about how they see our Association as a highly effective, strategic, reputable and credible organisation in community pharmacy that forward-thinking pharmacy operators, entrepreneurs, and those who care passionately about community pharmacy want to be a part of. Our members are incredibly hardworking. They are professional and innovative and they play a key role in the healthcare system. It’s time for the authorities to stop the financial suffocation of our sector and invest in the community pharmacy network to save. We need the negotiations to start - it has taken too long already! The NHS has received £22 billion uplift in funding. The money is there and our sector needs a share of this that is fair. A big well done to all our members for everything that they do for patients and communities - congratulations to our fabulous winners 😊. What an incredible evening at the Independent Pharmacies Association (IPA) event last night! It was enjoyable to connect with talented people and friends from the community pharmacy sector. Events like these remind me of the vibrant network we have and the collective dedication to improving healthcare. As we know, the healthcare and pharmacy sector has faced significant challenges over the past five years. However, I remain confident in our ability to create a pharmacy sector that not only delivers excellent value to the NHS but also achieves outstanding patient outcomes. There’s an immense amount of talent in community pharmacy and we can contribute to a healthier U.K. and ensure our patients receive the quality care they deserve. One of the highlights of the evening was catching up with fellow alumni from the Class of 2003 at the School of Pharmacy at The University of Bradford Imran Skhawat Shanel Raichura. It’s immensely rewarding to hear about the amazing initiatives and progress made by my peers in both community and hospital pharmacy. I genuinely believe that this group of graduates has truly made a difference, and I am proud to be part of such an esteemed group as well as the highly esteemed group of members of the IPA.

We're delighted that Ed Argar MP, the new Shadow Secretary for Health and Social Care, referenced our calculations on the impact of the Employer NI rise on community pharmacy finances during the Budget debate with Secretary of State Wes Streeting in Parliament. You can watch the video below 👇 We have also been making representation for the community pharmacy network in the national media, including the Sunday Times, highlighting the impact of these increases on our members’ operations. In addition, we have written to the Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves calling for community pharmacies to be exempt from the rise in Employers NI and invest in the community pharmacy network to save. If we don't, our sector won't survive due to rising costs. Our sector has a shortfall of £1.7 billion in core funding.
