We provide advocacy, community empowerment, and legal services to refugees 🌍. Proudly refugee-led
About us
Most of the world’s refugees spend decades or generations confined in camps, prohibited from working, or otherwise prevented from rebuilding their lives. Asylum Access was founded to change this. We are an international nonprofit founded to make refugee rights a reality in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Our advocates help refugees access their fundamental rights to safety, employment, education, and protection. Asylum Access believe all refugees deserve a fair chance at a new life. All over the world, we challenge barriers that keep refugees from living safely, moving freely, working and attending school – because when refugees can rebuild their lives, nations thrive. Asylum Access is headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area, USA.

We prefer to use “people seeking asylum,” “people of forced displacement” or “people who have experienced forced displacement,” instead of “asylum-seeker.” Why do we prefer this? ➜It centers PEOPLE first. ➜It acknowledges the absence of choice in fleeing one’s country. ➜It acknowledges that the people are not the issue, rather, the system is. Person-first language puts humanity before labels. This approach promotes respect and reduces stigma by recognizing the individual as a whole, rather than labeling them solely by their situation or condition. Let’s change the way we talk. #PersonFirstLanguage #HumanDignity #LanguageMatters

🤝 Human Solidarity Day is a call to action for global unity. Refugees around the world face overwhelming challenges—prolonged asylum processes, lack of legal recognition, and the constant threat of exploitation. Yet, through solidarity and shared action, we can create pathways for displaced individuals to access the rights and opportunities they deserve. This year, Asylum Access teams have worked tirelessly in regions across the globe to empower over 10,000 refugees with legal tools, knowledge, and support. 🌏 On International Migrants Day, we honor the strength and determination of people who leave everything behind in search of safety and opportunity. For refugees, migration isn’t a choice—it’s a necessity. Yet millions remain in legal limbo, without the rights or protections needed to rebuild their lives. At Asylum Access, we believe that access to work, healthcare, and education creates opportunities for forcibly displaced people to rebuild their lives and contribute to their host communities. We work across regions to remove barriers, advocate for fair policies, and provide critical legal support to refugees. 💛 Join us in standing with migrants worldwide and committing to a more just and inclusive world. #MigrantsDay #WithMigrants #GlobalSolidarity #RefugeeSupport #AsylumAccess #LocalizedProtection

Simon, our Communications and Creative Manager, is here to give an overview of the work we’re doing globally to make refugees’ human rights a reality. For almost two decades, we’ve been at the forefront of the movement to build a better global refugee response system. To achieve this, we need protection led by local communities, equitable partnerships, and centering the experience and perspectives of refugees. We also need you!
