Opening doors to quality living

About us

On June 11, 1938, the Atlanta Housing (AH) was the first-ever public housing authority established in the U.S. when the City of Atlanta passed a resolution declaring the need for safe, affordable housing for families facing financial difficulty. Under Georgia law, we are commissioned to develop, acquire, lease and operate affordable housing for low-income people and families. We are a leader in transforming public housing and providing affordable communities for families, seniors and the disabled. In 1996, AHA spearheaded the model for mixed-income, mixed-use communities where residents can thrive in quality, healthy living environments and advance to self-sufficiency. AHA is the largest housing agency in Georgia and one of the largest in the nation. We are a real estate development company that serves nearly 50,000 people, including families in 16 mixed-income communities, 13 residential properties (11 senior high-rise buildings and two family communities) and AHA’s Housing Choice Voucher Program participants. Our mission is to provide quality affordable housing in amenity-rich, mixed-income communities for the betterment of the community. The company’s goals are to 1) provide quality living environments 2) promote self-sufficiency and 3) facilitate economic viability. Visit www.atlantahousing.org to learn more about AHA.

  • Yesterday, we broke ground at The Proctor, a new multifamily development that will bring much-needed affordable housing to Atlanta’s Westside. This development deal is the first of its kind, offering Class A luxury amenities in modern, energy-efficient homes designed to support families of all sizes and incomes. With 41 units dedicated to AH voucher recipients, this development prioritizes sustainability and community-centered design to create a vibrant and inclusive neighborhood for our residents to call home. Thank you to our partners, the City of Atlanta, Windsor Stevens, Atlanta Urban Development Corporation (AUD), Rod Mullice, Basis Investment Group, LLC ("Basis"), Goldman Sachs, and Invest Atlanta for your support in making this vision a reality. Together, we are building a stronger, more equitable future for Atlanta.

  • 🥶 Frigid Weather Alert 🥶 With frigid temperatures expected, Atlanta Housing encourages all Atlanta residents to take these precautions: 1️⃣ Keep cabinets open to circulate warm air. 2️⃣ Let faucets drip to prevent freezing. 3️⃣ Set thermostats to at least 65°F, even if you’re out. 4️⃣ Close unused rooms to conserve heat. 5️⃣ Monitor local weather updates. Atlanta Housing has taken proactive steps to advise our property managers on additional protective measures for the safety and comfort of residents. Let’s stay warm and safe! #MovingAtlantaForward

Recently we hosted our very first conversation in our new conversation series, New Angles on Human Rights. Each year, we will use this series to shine a light on different issues that are often not seen in the context of Human Rights. For our inaugural event, we took on the Housing Crisis. In the images you will find reflections and dialogue from our conversation. A special thanks to our expert panelists: Christopher E. Bruce Esq., Ryan Gravel, David A. Jackson, Kimberly Parker, Dwayne Vaughn. And another special thanks Erin Davis, Honors College student and designer extraordinaire, for her help in creating these images.
