“If I had to relive my life, I don’t think I’d change much,” Jim shares, reflecting on his almost 70 years of marriage to Maxine. They met in college, and it didn’t take long for Jim to work up the nerve to whisper, “will you go out with me this weekend?” in Maxine’s ear while in the library. While Jim lives at Atria Valley View, Maxine is cared for in the Memory Care Neighborhood at nearby Atria Park of Lafayette. “Everything,” he says, when asked what it means to know she’s well cared for. “I want her taken care of. She’s happy where she is, and that’s all I could ever ask for.” Jim takes comfort in knowing she’s thriving. “She’s blossomed,” he says with pride, describing her joy and engagement in art and programming. “I’m happy now – from top to bottom,” Maxine says with a smile. We’re grateful to play a small part in Jim and Maxine’s beautiful love story.

🎨 Meet Joan, a talented artist and resident at Atria Rocklin! With a lifetime of painting experience and a love for teaching, Joan has brought her passion for art into her community. Her creative journey began as a young girl inspired by nature's beauty, which continues to fuel her work today. Joan loves sharing her techniques, encouragement and laughter with fellow residents. Her advice to young artists? "Be happy with your art even if it's not perfect because perfect will come with hard work." We’re thrilled to see the joy and calm painting brings to Joan and how it inspires everyone around her!
