  • Clinical trials are the cornerstone of advancing cancer care. 🔬 Through research and innovation, Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Cancer Center has made enormous progress over the last 50 years with our National Cancer Institute (NCI) designation. With the support of our Wake Forest University School of Medicine, we currently offer more than 500 clinical trials for various types and stages of cancer. This collaborative effort between our scientists, clinicians, the NCI, academic institutions, and industry partners ensures that our patients have access to cutting-edge treatments often months or years before they are available at other centers. Join us in celebrating 50 years of NCI-designation and our ongoing mission to advance cancer care through innovation and research. Together, we are making a difference in the fight against cancer. 💪✨ More on this here: https://bit.ly/3OXRNvb

Meet Carol - she has been a registered nurse since September 1956 and remains an active member of our team in the Operating Room at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist. She continues to share her knowledge and we are grateful. During this season she can be heard with jingle bells on her shoes as she roams the OR corridors. Today is her birthday - please join us in wishing her the happiest of days!

  • Originally from Argentina, Cristina Roche has always been an advocate for cancer patients in the Latino community, including serving on the board of a local outreach group. Her commitment to helping others took a personal turn just months after leaving the board when she was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. At the time, Cristina had just learned she would soon become a grandmother. Despite the odds stacked against her, she told her doctors she just wanted to meet her grandson. Now, 9 years later, she has two beautiful grandsons. Cristina's journey is a powerful reminder of the impact that comprehensive, compassionate care can have. This year, Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Cancer Center celebrates 50 years of being NCI-designated and community outreach and engagement is a big piece of earning that designation and keeping it. It’s a mission that’s personal for Cristina and everyone on our team who works to provide rural and minority populations with the tools and knowledge for prevention and early detection of cancer. Around 200 academic researchers, women’s health advocates, business and philanthropic leaders, investors and federal agency representatives attended the event and discussed scientific innovations in women’s health care. The Biden administration launched an initiative last year aimed at closing the decades-long gap in women’s health research.
