About us

Auberle is a nationally recognized human services agency serving 4,000 children and families each year in 26 program areas in Southwestern Pennsylvania. Auberle was recognized by the Alliance for Children and Families as Agency of the Year in the country, primarily for our delivery of consistently high positive outcomes in programs across the agency; and for successfully launching 23 major initiatives last year that significantly improved services for the children and families we serve. The award and the accomplishments behind it demonstrate that leadership, pride and a focus on excellence are infused throughout the organization. This consistently high service is delivered with a trauma-informed focus reflecting concern for staff and clients. The regional nonprofit community recognized Auberle with the Wishart Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Management. Auberle is the recipient of two employer awards in 2013 including The Pittsburgh Business Times Healthiest Employers in Western PA and Top Workplace by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Auberle was named to the Top 25 Workplaces of mid-sized companies from a pool of over 1,100 for-profit and nonprofit companies. Since 1952, we have helped thousands of children and their families through our residential care, foster care, emergency shelter, in-home intervention, education, vocational, workforce development, student assistance, drug and alcohol and mental health programs. From our start as a residential facility, today more than 2/3 of our clients are served in their home, school or in their community.

Through connections with community organizations, UPMC is breaking down barriers to employment while assembling a stronger workforce. Auberle works with more than 150 referring agencies to accept clients in need of support, including employment training and placement, and partners with more than 200 organizations like UPMC to place those individuals, both teen and adult, with potential employers. The McKeesport, Pa.-based human services nonprofit operates, among other programs, the Employment Institute, a workforce development program that helps individuals who may face challenges finding, obtaining, or maintaining employment to succeed in the workforce. The cohorts are trained at UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside, primarily in Food and Nutrition roles like food service attendant, cook, and catering host, through Auberle’s Employment Institute. It’s a new extension of a partnership that’s already paid dividends: More than 90 people have been placed into employment through a collaboration between Auberle and UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital over the past two years. And it’s just one of a number of similar programs blooming throughout UPMC’s footprint that are lifting up the communities we serve while creating a stronger workforce and a better experience for the people for whom we provide care. 💜

Auberle's NEXT Society held its first happy hour event of 2024 on Tuesday, March 26th at City Winery in the Strip District. A group of 40 young leaders joined us to hear from our guest speaker, Blayre Holmes Davis, Second Lady of Pennsylvania and Director of Community Relations for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Guests packed “welcome kits” for the families entering Auberle's Family Healing Center, a first-of-its-kind in the country substance use treatment program that treats the entire family together. Thank you to Blayre, our sponsor UPMC Commercial Inside Sales, and everyone for coming out!
