Today, the U.S. House passed the Autism CARES Act of 2024. For those who may not know, the Autism CARES Act is the most important federal law advancing autism research, supports and training.    Since its first passage in 2006, it has transformed how we understand and support the autism community—expanding healthcare training, advancing autism research, and helping create vital services for people across the spectrum. Today’s passage renews and expands this critical support.    I am incredibly proud of my team and the thousands of advocates from our Autism Speaks community for leading the charge to make this happen, ensuring that the diverse needs of the autism spectrum are recognized in national policy.    Imagine receiving your child’s autism diagnosis and not knowing what the future holds, with little information or support to guide you. That’s what it was like for me when my son was first diagnosed, before the Autism CARES Act existed. There were so many questions, and few answers.     We’ve come a long way since then, and today is another important step forward, but we’re not done yet.    The US Senate still needs to pass this bill before September 30, or we risk losing some of the most significant national autism programs that exist. I’m asking you to stand with me and advocate for the Senate to ensure that these crucial programs continue, for my son and for countless other families navigating autism. This week we released Journeys for All: An Expedia Group Study on Inclusion in Travel. Our new research identifies shared travel challenges and opportunities of underserved groups, including Black, Latino, LGBTQIA+, and travelers with disabilities. This study is a good framework for us, as an industry, to create more inclusive travel experiences. The findings reiterate what we’ve long known to be true: embedding inclusive practices across our products and services does more than enhance brand appeal and loyalty – it creates growth opportunities.
