This is where the rubber meets the road. So proud of our company President, Iain Dobson, as he races through days 4 and 5 of the 7-day Silver Fern Rally in New Zealand. It’s not every organization that can boast they have an award-winning rally driver steering their company.

Yesterday was National Boss Day, and we’d be remiss if we didn’t celebrate our company’s President, Iain Dobson, and our Executive Vice President, Jeff Emerine. In the world of leadership, knowing when to be serious about work and when to embrace fun is key to fostering a thriving team culture. Great leaders understand that productivity thrives in a positive environment. While there are times to buckle down and focus on goals, there are equally important moments to lighten the mood and encourage creativity. By recognizing this balance, we not only drive results but also build trust, strengthen relationships, and promote well-being among our teams. It’s in these moments of levity that innovation can spark and camaraderie can flourish. Let’s embrace the duality of leadership! Being serious about our work doesn’t mean we can’t have fun along the way.

It’s Warehouse Wednesday! Automotive Events has a sizable warehouse, which means it’s a sizable task to manage it. Bill Lynch, our Warehouse Manager, gets help from Sir Reginald Fluffybottom, or Reggie for short. He’s Automotive Events’ official “Assistant to the Warehouse Manager,” and his interview for the position made him a shoo-in. Bill found Reggie outside our warehouse in late December 2021, and rescued him from a cold, homeless winter. Sir Reginald Fluffybottom has proved to be a loyal companion and devoted employee who works for hugs, scratches, and cuddles, which is a salary we’re happy to pay.

A non-wedge issue. Against a backdrop of ever more automotive product launches, I am often asked about emerging trends. COVID closures pushed revealing new products to media away from auto shows. This has proven to be a winning formula. Full disclosure: I do still love auto shows. I have done so since Earls Court and the London Motor Show in 1976 courtesy of my long-suffering mother. I had been desperate to see the wedge-shaped Aston Martin Lagonda in the flesh, and the sheer impact of that vehicle stays with me to this day. The argument for an off-site domestic reveal is strong when global reveals at auto shows cost millions. Our clients are all moving in this direction. In particular, the idea of a cost-effective reveal to media attending the first drive of another product is overwhelmingly attractive. Of course, it also offers extra value to attendees who can enjoy two stories from the same time investment. And if COVID quarantining taught us anything, it was that very few are satisfied by virtual reveals—a sentiment my thirteen-year-old self would vigorously endorse.

Driven to Succeed! Automotive Event's President Iain Dobson and his co-driver Harry Stubbs came in 9th overall and 1st in class at the 2023 East African Safari Classic Rally! Automotive Events and Cataclean sponsored the journey and Iain's service crew Ben Coles, Tim Ashton, Ben Ashton, and Steve Luton helped make the wheels turn. What a ride!
