  • Thank You, President Jimmy Carter: A Story of Inspiration and Purpose It was around 1984 when President Jimmy Carter became involved with Habitat for Humanity. At the time, I was captivated by the mission of the organization. The idea of building homes for those in need struck a chord deep within me, and I remember thinking, If I could ever afford to sponsor a home build, I would love to do it. Fast forward to 1986, when I launched my first company. It was a success, and by November 1997, I sold the business. Through the years, as I built other businesses, the desire to contribute to Habitat for Humanity never left my heart. It was a seed planted long ago, thanks to Jimmy Carter, and it kept growing, tugging at me as a reminder of a greater purpose. By this time, I had also become involved in racing, sponsoring a couple of race cars and even a Craftsman Truck in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Advertising and sponsorships were exciting ways to invest, but deep down, I knew there was something more meaningful I needed to do. One day, I walked into a Bubba Gump Shrimp restaurant and saw a plaque recognizing they had sponsored a Habitat for Humanity home build. It stirred something in me again, bringing those long-held aspirations to the surface. It wasn’t long after that moment when the call came—a call that would change everything. A representative from Habitat for Humanity reached out, saying my name had come up as someone who might be interested in sponsoring a home. Without hesitation, I said, "Absolutely." There were no questions, no concerns about cost—just an immediate yes. I knew in my heart that this was God’s plan, and I felt an overwhelming sense of purpose. The process moved quickly. Habitat for Humanity came down, I handed over the check, and the journey of building a home in Daytona Beach began. The experience of seeing that home come together, brick by brick, was humbling. But nothing compares to the moment when I handed over the keys to the family who would live there. It was a beautiful, emotional day—one I will never forget. Reflecting on that experience, I am deeply grateful to President Jimmy Carter for the inspiration he provided all those years ago. His commitment to service and the simple yet profound act of helping others planted a seed that eventually grew into something life-changing—not just for me, but for the family whose home was built. Thank you, President Jimmy Carter, for showing the world the power of purpose and for inspiring me to act on it. Your legacy lives on in the countless lives touched by Habitat for Humanity and the example you set for all of us.
