Another all out robotics day. Started with a Robotic Varicocelectomy case (to help boost a young man’s testosterone & fertility) and then 5 robotic prostate aquablation cases. All successfully completed using the Strauss MCP (meticulous cauterization protocol) - all patients went home within 1 hour after surgery, no foley traction, no continuous bladder irrigation, minimal saline bag use, and no post-op bleeding. As we get older, some of us may start to feel the urge to pee a lot stronger and more frequently, get up at night a lot more, or notice our stream getting weaker. In men, these are all symptoms of an enlarged prostate. By the time some men make it to the urologist, they may already have occasional accidents where they don’t make it to the bathroom in time. We have great surgical treatments for an enlarged prostate such as Robotic Prostate Aquablation. This helps resolve a number of the prostate issues, however, the patient may still have some bladder overactivity issues from years of damage. We are blessed to partner with Dr. Juanita Benedict, PT, DPT, Pelvic Floor Therapist from Athena Pelvic Health to develop a pelvic floor therapy program called Aqua Control just for our Aquablation patients. Great to see the growth of RAMSES since 2010 when we initially founded the group. RAMSES 12 in Singapore was the best and largest meeting so far - over 300 registrants and the first ever Robotic Microsurgical hands on workshop with multiple robotic microsurgical systems. Dr. Savitha Ramachandran (President), Dr. Jeremy Sun (Co-Chair) & Dr. Khong Yik Chew (Co-Chair) did an amazing job. We started a new tradition of passing a symbolic baton from the current RAMSES President to the next President (Dr. Tetsuji (Tets) uemura ) for the 2025 meeting in Kagoshima, Japan. I was one of the founding members and remember how difficult it was and how much work it was to fund raise and organize our initial meetings in Florida (with the help of Veritas Association Management). A huge shoutout to everyone that helped us along this journey. I was blessed to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award from RAMSES for developing Robotic Microsurgery in Urology over all these years. I was always considered an outsider by our main urology societies, but it’s unfortunate that they do not see the number of patients we help with robotic microsurgery. Change is always hard, but the human condition is growth and development.
