In water treatment, there are two types of silica found in feedwaters: dissolved and colloidal. What are the differences? Dissolved silica, also known as reactive silica, forms hard, glass-like deposits on RO membranes, making it difficult to remove. Colloidal silica, on the other hand, consists of small, solid particles that can clog membranes and cause fouling. Understanding the behavior of both types is essential for choosing the right antiscalants and cleaning strategies to prevent buildup and maintain system performance. Water scarcity doesn’t just affect humans, but nature and wildlife too. Many species native to the drought-ridden Colorado River Basin area are facing the risks brought on by the decline of water resources. As water-related issues continue to rise, we are committed to ensuring that the wildlife communities and ecosystems relying on critical water sources continue to flourish. We’re advocating for water conservation in the Colorado Basin through our initiative, Impact Together: The Colorado River Basin Project.
