The AZZ Galvanizing - Houston Care Team recently organized a toy drive to support Magnolia’s Toy Drive, a community program that ensures children in need receive gifts during the Christmas season. Magnolia’s Toy Drive goes beyond just delivering toys—it brings the community together with a festive parade through the neighborhood. After the parade, families gather at a local park to enjoy food, fun, and photos with Santa. The donated toys are then distributed to the children, spreading smiles and holiday cheer. Through their support, the AZZ Houston Care Team has once again shown their commitment to making a positive impact in the community. We are excited to celebrate AZZ team member - Kevin Upchurch! 🙌 Kevin has been a part of the AZZ team for nearly six years, showcasing an inspiring journey of internal career growth. He started his career path at AZZ Inc. as a Learning Consultant in 2019, transitioning to Operations Manager in 2020, and ultimately earning a well-deserved promotion to Plant Manager by December 2022 at our Hurst, Texas plant! Kevin's shift from the corporate world to an operations role at the plant was ultimately driven by his previous extensive background in the operations field and seeing the work in the plants which inspired him to reignite the spark and return to his career roots. He relays that: "Prior to learning and development, I spent about 10 years in the oil and gas industry with most of that being in an operations role. Operations is where I felt most at home. At that point, I had visited the Hurst plant a couple of times. When they had an open position and asked me if I was interested, I let both the Hurst plant as well as my manager know that this is something I wanted to pursue. My manager was very supportive, helped me along the way, and just overall wanted me to succeed." He encourages anyone wanting to grow in their career to be open about their goals with their supervisor, and notes that, "Everyone I’ve worked with at AZZ has been supportive and wants to see you succeed. They’ll help you get to where you want to be." Kevin's career journey is truly remarkable, and we commend his past and present managers for providing the support he needed to make a transition that perfectly aligned with his passion and purpose. In supporting Kevin's pursuit of his career dreams, AZZ has not only gained and retained a valuable skillset but also an exceptional individual whose character and zeal for teamwork embodies the TRAITS and values that we cherish at AZZ. The Tulsa Zoo’s new Oxley Family Elephant Experience and Preserve exemplifies innovation and commitment to world-class animal care, particularly for its Asian elephant herd. The $32.8 million project includes a state-of-the-art elephant barn and a tenfold increase in the facility’s size, with 10 acres of roaming space. To ensure durability and safety, the zoo incorporated advanced design features such as natural substrate flooring, rain control systems, and a fully equipped kitchen. A standout feature is the canopy at the public entryway, finished with a dual-layer protective coating that combines galvanized zinc and a durable black powder coat. This advanced treatment not only enhances aesthetics but also maximizes durability, providing an extended lifespan well-suited to the zoo’s environmental challenges. The commissioning phase of the installation of AZZ Precoat Metal's new coil coating line in Washington, Missouri is quickly drawing to a close. AZZ Precoat’s Engineering Team and the growing AZZ Precoat Washington Team took a moment to celebrate the first painted coil with our equipment supplier and our installation partners. It has only been twenty-one short months since we broke ground on this new site. All of our project partners have done an amazing job keeping this entire project on track. With Veterans Day taking place earlier this week, we’re honored to spotlight the career journey of a veteran who has brought invaluable experience and dedication to our team! 🙌 Ryan Cornelius, Treasury Manager, joined AZZ over a year ago. His first job in the financial field was at the Federal Reserve Bank in Oklahoma City working in the check processing department. While this job piqued his interest in the financial field, Ryan felt called to serve his country being a 4th generation sailor with 9/11 weighing heavily on his heart and mind. He served 6 years with three deployments to the Arabian Gulf. After returning to civilian life, he completed his education with dual bachelor’s degrees in finance and financial services, and an MBA. Today, Ryan is building on his expertise at AZZ, with the company’s full support for his pursuit of the Certified Treasury Professional (CTP) designation. Q: How did your military values shape your role at AZZ? "The Navy’s core values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment align with AZZ’s TRAITS. Teamwork influences my work today – We need each other to achieve our (AZZ and its team members) goals. The same teamwork needed in the military is the same teamwork needed at AZZ. The galvanizing and precoat operations are far too complex for one person to do on their own which is why teamwork is so necessary. Our superior teamwork literally translates into financial success, which I see daily." Q: What would you say to other veterans considering a career with AZZ? "First, you are needed, and you will be welcomed. Second, we have open positions in 20+ states and Canada ranging from Accounting to Maintenance Technicians to Plant Managers, so there is a fit. Third, we are the best at what we do, and we will only continue to grow." Hot-dip galvanizing is essential to the durability and longevity of bunkhouse specialty trailers used in post-disaster recovery, where they often endure harsh conditions such as rain, snow, road salt, and high humidity. JAG Mobile Solutions chose hot-dip galvanizing for critical metal components, including chassis, tongues, service boxes, and waste tanks, to provide lasting corrosion protection. This zinc coating not only preserves the structural integrity of the trailers but also reduces the need for frequent repairs, especially important for hollow sections where internal corrosion might go unnoticed. The revitalization of Chester I. Lewis Reflection Square Park in downtown Wichita honors the city’s cultural heritage and Civil Rights history. A collaboration between Wichita Parks, artists, and designers aimed to refresh the park while maintaining its historical significance. The redesign incorporates artistic metal structures and functional elements protected by hot-dip galvanizing (HDG) and duplex coatings. HDG provides long-lasting, maintenance-free corrosion protection, crucial for outdoor installations. This not only safeguards the city’s investment but also ensures the park remains a vibrant public space for future generations.
