  • Is the GenAI topic getting old? What is next for AI and BAs? A few things I see: 1️⃣ AI Agents - BA AI Agents to help BAs be far more productive. And AI Agents we help build for business teams to automate more of their processes! 2️⃣ Embedded GenAI - Embedding GenAI prompts into apps such that what users enter on screens today is used and inserted into an AI prompt behind the scenes and then GenAI is used behind the scenes to get data back to the user. 3️⃣ Stronger data analytics by using voice prompts to get at and analyze data to help inform good business analysis. 4️⃣ Structured Requirements Information - Out with requirements statements and documents, incoming structured and reusable requirements information. Are you ready for what is next beyond basic GenAI? #businessanalysis #businessanalyst

  • BAs - It's NOT About the Documents! Too many BAs and organizations place too much emphasis on the documents BAs create. Documentation has its place, but it shouldn’t define a BA’s role. When do documents become a problem for BAs? 🔹 When it is the only thing BAs are seen doing 🔹 When it replaces real conversations and collaboration, which are critical for success. 🔹 When it stifles creativity and problem-solving as everyone focuses on document reviews over real problem solving 🔹 When its the primary way BAs are measured, rather than their impact. 🔹 When it slows down the process as it becomes a crutch for both BAs and Dev Teams. 🔹 When it fosters unhealthy role dynamics that limit effectiveness. BAs, Dev Teams, and Leaders—we all have a role in this! Everyone shares responsibility for these challenges. How do we fix it? Lead the way! I’ve seen BAs drive change by shifting focus, telling the right stories, and setting new patterns. Be the example! Show that your role is about so much more than documentation. 💡 Ask yourself: What do your team and stakeholders SEE you doing? What do you WANT them to see you doing? 👇 Share your challenges and successes in the comments! #businessanalysis #businessanalyst

  • The difference between a PRODUCTIVE Business Analyst and a BUSY one: 👊 A productive BA . . . ✅ Identifies things that should NOT be done, rather than busy BAs who work on everything on the backlog or everything people ask for. ✅ Defines the problem to solve and who we are solving it for before any technical work is defined. Busy BAs define the technical details of the solutions asked for, often causing rework. ✅ Gets 100x work done in the value delivered over the actual work being done. They focus on the value over getting "requirements" work done, documents completed, and details defined. Hint.... most of the documents and details actually do not need to be done and add no value. Our job as a BA is to figure this out. Busy BAs do everything everyone asks of them, and it's a lot, but adds little value. ✅ Use stakeholders time so efficiently that stakeholders are begging for more of the BAs time! They demonstrate their value with how they craft conversations with stakeholders, showing there is so much more to talk about, not telling stakeholders this. A busy BA always feels like they need more time from stakeholders and is typically not really using their time effectively, more often than not is duplicating conversations the stakeholders already had with others. ✅ Creates and reuses visual models and other artifacts to inspire analysis in themselves and others. This analysis is where the gaps in requirements are actually found. A busy BA creates new ones for each project and treats them like deliverables vs continuously used assets. • What does a requirement look like when a stakeholder asks to use AI in their project or enhancement request? Think about it as Structured Requirements Information, not a requirement, not a set of requirements. As developers use AI to grab code, they need inputs from us that help them understand the context, not the tech details. They need: - User Groups Defined - Actions for each user group (Task decomposition for each user group) - Scenarios for each user task - Data flow (Input, Transform, Output for each task and scenario - Rules that must be deterministic in the process And, they need BAs to focus on the user experience with AI. What areas of each user scenario can and cannot be leveraged with non-deterministic AI? What parts of tasks do we let users prompt, help them prompt, or embed prompts for them behind the scenes? Where can data analytics be used to predict and prescribe? The next stage is about enabling a user outcome, not an isolated task with AI. #businessanalysis #businessanalyst
