This month’s small business highlight is Gunny & Co! 1. WHAT DO THEY DO? Leighia Halvorsen is the owner of Gunny & Co and she sells handcrafted, handmade, and hand poured items! See them for modern candles, home décor, clothing, and other boutique items. 2. WHERE ARE THEY? Gunny & Co is located at 914 W Exchange St, Brodhead, WI 53520. It may be a little tricky to find the entrance, just simply open up a door, then turn left and open up another door, and you're inside! 3. WHEN DID THEY START? They started in 2019 at a small booth at an antique store. They slowly grew and expanded since then and have had their storefront since 2021. 4. HOW DID THEY START? She started as a hobby selling signs and hand towels out of her house and the business quickly grew. She took a candle class in Nashville and started selling 3 different scents as well. Those sold out and she moved onto other holiday scents. After that, the business quickly took off and became her full time gig. She expanded doing wholesale and a booth at an antique store. She quickly started her storefront and now has candles and other products in multiple different stores in Southern Wisconsin, Illinois, and many other states. 5. WHY DO THEY DO IT? She does it because she loves her products and saw a need in the market for quality products at affordable prices for the average person. One fun fact?....................The company is named after their retired canine! Also, Leighia coaches boys and girls tennis and basketball at a Beloit high school!
