Last week was special for some of our young patients at Diamond Children's Medical Center. Members of Arizona Men's Basketball visited the Play Zone to paint and color shoes with the kids, creating some truly unique designs. These custom-painted shoes will be worn by coaches and staff during the Jan. 25 game against Colorado as part of Coaches vs. Cancer Week. After the game, the shoes will be auctioned off, with proceeds supporting pediatric patients. Our Tucson trauma team recently connected with students at Cholla High School to share what it means to work in trauma care. In partnership with the Tucson Unified School District and the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma (EAST), this community outreach event addressed trauma—the leading cause of death among young people—through education and awareness. Trauma surgeons from across the country led engaging, hands-on activities, including career discussions, Stop the Bleed training, impaired driving simulations, and powerful testimonials from trauma survivors.
