  • At Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center, we believe patient care is most effective when it’s truly collaborative. Our evidence-based, multidisciplinary approach brings together physicians from all cancer specialties to provide highly coordinated and compassionate care. Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center is thrilled to welcome one of our newest specialists, Heidi Hallam, MD, a palliative care (supportive care) and hospice physician who recently joined Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center at Banner North Colorado Medical Center and Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center at Banner McKee Medical Center. Her expertise in treating the person as a whole, not just their disease, will positively impact her patients as they face their cancer diagnosis, ultimately improving and impacting their quality of life. “I found my path to palliative care through personal experiences with family members who had been diagnosed with cancer and went through cancer treatment,” says Dr. Hallam. “Those were the doctors that imprinted on my family and myself what it means to care for people in medicine. My approach to medicine is to meet every patient with curiosity, with an open mind, with compassion and to really meet them where they are in their cancer journey and have a good understanding of how we can serve their needs. Communication is very important in medical care; it is the way we learn about the whole person, and that helps us provide care that is individualized and tailored to what is really needed.” Thank you, Dr. Hallam, for all you do for our patients! We’re glad to have you at Banner MD Anderson. To learn more about Dr. Hallam or to schedule an appointment with her, please visit: https://bit.ly/3QoUiYh #endcancer #oncology #physicianspotlight

Dr. Gopalan and the cardiovascular team turned to advanced interventions, including ECMO and the Impella heart pump, to support his heart and give him a fighting chance. Over the next three months, Benjamin defied the odds. Thanks to Dr. Gopalan’s expertise and the advanced cardiac care at Banner – University Medicine, patients with even the most complex heart conditions have access to life-saving treatment. • At Banner Health, we’re proud to have an expansive network of physicians who work every day to help make health care easier, so life can be better. Today we recognize Rohit Nathan, DO, a fellowship trained gastroenterologist and transplant hepatologist specializing in the treatment of a wide range of liver disorders. Dr. Nathan is part of the Banner – University Advanced Liver Disease and Liver Transplant Center that has provided care to more than 500 transplant patients with advanced liver disease. He is dedicated to fostering a secure and nurturing atmosphere with his patients, working with each patient collaboratively to navigate their condition or disease process. "What drives me as a doctor is making a difference in patients’ lives and connecting with them and their families,” says Dr. Nathan. “It is of great importance to establish a good rapport with the patient and their family, which allows them to develop a good sense of trust in me as their physician… Communication is important, as it fosters a trusting relationship between the physician and patient. It is a two-way street; the physician needs to appropriately communicate with their patient and the patient needs to be able to communicate back… I hope my patients say I’m trustworthy and kind, and most importantly, I’m a good communicator and have educated them on their disease processes.” Thank you for all you do for our patients, Dr. Nathan!
