    💡 Congratulations to Dr. Michael McDermott and Florida International University - Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine's Matthew Schaefer on being awarded the Best E-Poster for their research analyzing radiosurgery or resection procedures for incidental meningiomas at the Southern Neurosurgical Society Annual Meeting. Dr. McDermott also presented research on how AI-driven imaging reveals functional neural network changes in idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH) patients, potentially aiding in non-invasive diagnosis and predicting clinical improvement.     Congratulations to M4 Matthew Schaefer on winning the Best E-Poster Award at the Southern Neurosurgical Society Annual Meeting! 🎉 Matthew, who is pursuing our combined MD and Healthcare MBA degree, presented his research: Upfront Resection or Radiosurgery versus Delayed Resection or Radiosurgery for Incidental Meningiomas: An Economic Decision Analysis at the meeting on Marco Island. “This research is important to me because I believe personalized medicine and treatment plans are the most beneficial way to treat patients. Through this research we can see that personalized treatment plans have the added benefit of lower cost to the health system."   • 💡 Congratulations to Dr. Alessandro Villa, chief of oral medicine at Baptist Health Miami Cancer Institute, on his recent publication in JCO Oncology Practice in collaboration with American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have revolutionized cancer treatment, offering new hope with improved outcomes for many patients. The FDA’s approval of the anti–cytotoxic T-cell lymphocyte-4 antibody ipilimumab in March 2011 sparked a paradigm shift, particularly in advanced-stage melanoma.
