Between July 2023 and February 2024, Barrow Neurological Institute has hosted 60 visiting scholars and observers representing 27 countries! The Barrow Visiting Scholar and Neuroscience Observer Program enables visiting neuroscience faculty worldwide to learn advanced techniques and skills that will help them improve patient care. This is the impact of philanthropy, and we are so grateful to our donors, especially the Franke family, for expanding access to top-tier neuroscience education that will impact so many lives.

Barrow recruits the best clinical and research staff to pioneer answers to devastating neurological conditions, including Alzheimer’s disease, brain tumors, Parkinson’s disease, aneurysms, ALS and stroke. When you give to Barrow, 100 percent of your donations fund compassionate patient care, advances in research and education for the future leaders in the neurosciences. "I have come to find that every day is a gift that I do my best to live to the fullest!" – Kelly Knolla 💚 #TuesdayTriumph: Ten years ago, Kelly Knolla was diagnosed with an astrocytoma growing into her brainstem—a life-altering diagnosis with an overwhelming risk of paralysis on her right side. By what she calls "sheer luck", she was referred to Dr. Nader Sanai at the Ivy Center at Barrow Neurological Institute, where specialized care not only saved her life but minimized deficits. Today, Kelly undergoes regular MRIs every six months and has regained full function on her right side. Her journey inspired her to give back to the brain tumor community in remarkable ways. From advocating for the National Brain Tumor Society to captaining her local Brain Tumor Walk team Kelly reminds us all to embrace life’s gifts and make a difference. 🌟

When it comes to back pain, the modern golf game is no laughing matter: it is a contact sport that can cause serious physical injury. There is currently little evidence-based research on the exact cause of golfers’ back pain, how to best treat it, and when it will be safe to return to the game. Barrow will change this paradigm through the 2025 Barrow Open - the inaugural golf tournament aimed to raise funds for the Barrow Golf Neuroscience Research Laboratory!
