With the festive season round the corner, it’s important we’re aware of our battery usage during the holidays. From decorations to toys the average household purchases around 30 batteries every December🔋 The spike in sales requires a push on recycling, we have a growing network of more than 30,000 battery recycling bins nationwide to make it simple. A ban on the sale and supply of single use vapes in England to come into force in June 2025📆   Single use vapes are not refillable or rechargeable, they are typically discarded as general waste in a bin or littered, rather than recycled. Vapes that do make it to the recycling centre are currently being recycled by hand, a costly and time-consuming process.    When improperly recycled, lithium-ion batteries pose a fire risk to recycling sites and waste industry workers☣   In the meantime, it is important that vapes are disposed of correctly. Wastecare's disposable vape collection & recycling♻ As one of the largest collectors of portable batteries nationwide, Wastecare are also offering a vape take-back scheme for vape retailers. We offer three types of vape collection containers, 5 litre buckets, 15 litre tubes, and 30 litre drums. Since 1st April, vape retailers are no longer apart of the (DTS) Distributor Takeback Scheme. Instead, all retailers selling vapes are obligated to provide customers with a service for the proper disposal of their vapes and e-cigs. The Forest School is complete!🌳 We have been working closely with Yorkshire Children's Charity and Wastecare Group Environmental Trust to build a Forest School for Sherburn Hungate Primary School. Last week, they had their official launch party 🎉 This new outdoor space will expand the children's curriculum and teach them more about nature, their environment, and the ecosystems surrounding them. The Forest School includes: - Accessible walkways (designed by the children) - A sheltered seating area with a fire pit - A mud kitchen - A den building area - Sensory pathways We couldn't be happier with the results of the Forest School and we look forward to continuing this initiative.
