We keep reading about more funding cuts to youth mental health services yet these are some statistics from the latest State of Child Health in Aotearoa New Zealand report. This is NOT ok.

We are hiring! An exciting opportunity exists for a Counsellor to join our charity, providing counselling for children. Be Heard offers free one-to-one counselling at several primary and intermediate schools across Dunedin. Our services are provided on school grounds to ensure effortless usability for children within a familiar environment. You will play an integral role in promoting mental wellbeing for young people, making positive and lasting differences in their lives. We are seeking someone with qualifications in counselling and ideally some experience working with children in the 5-13 year age group. Full or part time will be considered. If you would like further information or to speak to someone about the role, please contact Kelly Macknight kelly@beheard.org.nz

Two weeks ago I tripped over and landed on my wrist. What did I do about it? I went to the urgent doctors to get it looked at. Why wouldn't I as it was unlikely to randomly fix itself. So turned out to be broken and I have a weeks long plan for while it heals and after to make it strong again. Why, so often, is mental health treated differently? It shouldn't be and we need to normalise anyone asking for help.
