  • Big Brains & Big Impact: Dr. Kimberlé Crenshaw When we talk about changemakers in education and policy, we have to shine a light on Dr. Kimberlé Crenshaw—a legal scholar, educator, and straight-up game-changer in the fight for racial justice. She’s the queen of intersectionality (literally, she coined the term), breaking down how race, gender, and other identities collide to shape people’s experiences—especially for Black women. Her work helped build Critical Race Theory (CRT), which challenges the way racism is baked into laws, policies, and education. And let’s be real—her brilliance has made a lot of folks uncomfortable, but the truth has that effect. Dr. Crenshaw has been out here making sure our education system tells the whole story, not just the parts that make people comfortable. She’s been on the front lines pushing for ethnic studies, inclusive curriculum, and policies that actually reflect real history. Her impact is global, but her work is deeply felt in the Bay—where the fight for justice, education, and real representation in schools is still going strong. Let’s give props to a legend who’s making sure the next generation is woke, informed, and ready to shake the table. 🖤✊🏾 #BlackHistoryMonth #Intersectionality #EducationIsPower #KimberléCrenshaw

  • Celebrating a Trailblazer: Karen Korematsu Black History Month isn’t just about looking back—it’s about learning, growing, and honoring those who continue the fight for justice. So today, we’re giving flowers to Karen Korematsu, a fierce advocate for civil rights and racial equity. Karen is the daughter of Fred Korematsu, the civil rights legend who stood up against Japanese American incarceration during WWII. But she’s not just carrying on his legacy—she’s building her own. As the founder of the Fred T. Korematsu Institute, she’s out here making sure we remember the lessons of history while pushing for real change today. She’s been on the front lines fighting for constitutional rights, calling out discrimination, and making sure ethnic studies are part of our education system—because knowing our full history is power. Karen’s work reminds us that justice isn’t a solo act—it’s a movement. We stand on the shoulders of those who came before us, and we keep pushing forward so the next generation can stand even taller. Let’s honor those who fight for the truth and never stop working for a better world. 🖤✊🏾 #KnowYourHistory #KeepPushing

  • Big shoutout to the Monument Impact leadership team! 🎉 Through a series of group coaching sessions, they’re diving deep into their collective values, decision-making processes, and alignment strategies. This “go slow to go fast” approach is one of my favorite ways to work with leadership—it’s all about building strong foundations so teams can work more efficiently, with ease, and lean into collective support. It’s inspiring to see leaders prioritize this kind of maintenance work for long-term success! 💡✨ #LeadershipDevelopment #TeamAlignment #CollectiveValues #CoachingForImpact #GoSlowToGoFast Monument Impact

  • From Competition to Community: Rethinking the Audition Process - This week, my artistic side hustle, the Belonging Resident Company held auditions for our 2025 season—three hours of artistry, vulnerability, and connection. In a time when belonging is being threatened and even weaponized by executive order, my genius co-director Sarah Crowell and I worked to create a space where artists could bring not just their talents, but their full humanity. One participant knew this was a special space when she felt safe enough to take her shoes off. When asked why, she shared that in her past experiences, empty shoes were an invitation for someone to put glass in them. Another artist commented- this was such a tender space for embodied empathy and somatic release. I felt personally stretched! That’s exactly what we aim to cultivate—excellence without cutthroat competition, even in an audition process. Auditions inherently create limits—there are only so many spots, and only so much skill-building time, and only so much energy to invest in coalescing as a group—and yet in this audition we were committed to instilling the message that we still belong to each other, during and after. We are deeply grateful to the incredible artists who showed up on Wednesday night, and we can’t wait for an inspiring season ahead - with our people on the stage, in the audience, and in the zoomiverse. We are still lining up our exciting season, but for sure you can catch us this year at Bioneers and SF Night of Ideas. Stay tuned for more! #BeTheChange #BelongingResidentCompany
