If you're a technology company thinking about climate risk reporting...how can you not look at risk to employees? Your offices aren't that big of a risk. A hurricane can wipe out an office and (as long as everyone is safe) people work remotely, insurance pays for everything, and you're back in the office a month later. Your data centers are often outsourced to AWS, GCP, and Azure, limiting your exposure. But your people? If a wildfire knocks out power to a region and employees can't work, or a tornado ruins a manager's house so they're distracted with insurance issues, or a flood puts an executive in danger...your business is in actual trouble. You should be using Beehive Climate, or something like it (hint: there's nothing like it) to measure climate risk to employees. #climaterisk #tcfd #esg

I think one of the coolest things Beehive Climate has built so far is an easy way to see risk to employees. Our customers have thousands of employees. If a wildfire, flood, or other natural disaster hurts their people, or forces people to evacuate homes, that is a huge financial problem for the company, in addition to being a potentially tragic event. So if you're a tech company, law firm, or similar services business thinking about climate risk, you need to understand the risk to your employees. And as far as I know Beehive is the only software that lets you do that. And we make it drag-and-drop easy. Check out the video below to see how we do it. #climaterisk #tcfd #climatechange #startups

  • We’re proud to announce that Beehive has officially earned SOC 2 Type 1 certification! 🎉 Security has been a top priority for us since day one. When we started Beehive, we knew that building trust with our customers—especially enterprise organizations—meant committing to the highest standards of data protection and privacy. As a risk management platform, we help businesses minimize climate risks, but we also recognize the importance of minimizing cyber risks. Earning SOC 2 Type 1 certification demonstrates that our systems and processes are designed to keep your data secure and lets us do a better job keeping your entire company secure. This is just the beginning. We're already working on SOC 2 Type 2 certification, ensuring that we continue to meet and exceed the expectations of the enterprise organizations we serve. Let’s build a safer, more resilient future together.

ESG execs have always spoken the language of risk. Risk of a company falling out of compliance with global regulations. Risk of losing an enterprise deal because of a weak sustainability commitment. Risk of employee churn due to poor working conditions. Risk isn't new. That's why I think ESG execs have taken to climate risk so well. It's about measuring the financial impact of climate disasters (hurricanes, heat waves, drought) on a company's bottom line. It's environmentally related, so it gets tossed on their plate. But its material to the entire company in ways everyone can understand. We all know what a hurricane is. We all appreciate that sales go down if customers are dealing with flooded homes. That's real risk. I'm very, very excited about what we're building at Beehive Climate. If you're thinking about enterprise climate risk for the first time, call me. If you've been doing climate risk for years but want something beyond consulting powerpoints, call me. We've got to talk. #tcfd #climaterisk #esg

One of the hardest, most expensive parts of TCFD reporting is climate scenario analysis. Basically, a company is expected to understand the impact of different disasters (wildfire, floods, etc) across time horizons (short term, mid term) and climate scenarios (global warming is really bad, we've solved climate change, business as usual.) Where do you even go to find that information? How insane is it to spend your time (or your money on a consultant) to read through dozens of IPCC reports to get some answers? Would an investor really take a "best guess" or a ChatGPT response as an auditable, verifiable, strategy? So Beehive Climate handles that all for our clients. You can see the impact of multiple disasters across time horizons and climate scenarios (called SSPs) all in one dashboard. Check out the video to see how we did it. More demo videos coming soon! #climaterisk #tcfd #climatechange #esg

The US suffered the highest economic impact (almost $1T) from climate disasters since 2014. That means your stock portfolio is lower than it could be. Energy cost more than it should (and we had more blackouts.) More people died. Companies paid more for insurance. Homes were more expensive because they had to be rebuilt. Beehive Climate doesn't solve all these problems for companies all at once. But we definitely give you a look into where your company faces the highest financial risk and shows you what your peers are doing about it. From Axios. #cop29 #climaterisk #tcfd

Hot take: Consultants are awesome. I know that's not the standard line from the founder of a software company, especially one that goes head to head against consultants in deals. But it's true. Consultants are so good at: - Building confidence - Presenting to the board - Doing trainings - Responding to risk - Developing strategy I just don't think they're as good at modeling at scale and real-time risk notifications. I wrote about that in a blogpost for Beehive Climate, link in comments. Take a read if you're thinking about consulting vs software for your climate risk work. #tcfd #consulting #climaterisk #esg

[wonky post coming] There's a trend in climate risk of moving away from consultants and towards in-house efforts. Consultants are an amazing way to get started. They'll tell you what you need to do, do a lot of the work for you, and give you your report. And if you hire a big four firm, your board and executives won't second guess you. But their approach is about a point-in-time review of risk. And climate just doesn't fit that box. Weather disasters happen every day around the world ($1B disasters every ~13 days in the USA) and a point-in-time review just doesn't make sense. That's like doing an annual assessment of how many times you got hacked last year, instead of spending every day protecting against hackers (and then reporting on your work, if you have to.) There's a movement away from consultants to bring climate into a enterprise risk management strategy. It's not easy. You've got to be knowledgeable enough on all aspects of climate risk - model formation & audibility, insurance, reporting, adaptation, emergency evacuations. So it's hard and it takes time. Software is making this easier. And while there is still a lot to develop, software is often a cheaper, faster way to solve short term regulatory challenges than consultants. I wrote about this in a recent blogpost for Beehive Climate. #climaterisk #tcfd #esg #csrd https://lnkd.in/e8qa8HA2

  • Enterprise Climate Risk Management is in a big way about keeping your employees safe. With almost 250 people killed by Hurricanes Helene and Milton, and almost $200b in economic loss, it is in a company's best interest to do more to keep their employees safe. We wrote about 5 actions companies can take to protect employees in this week's Beehive Climate blog. 1. Disaster alerts 2. Home insurance evaluation 3. Company-sponsored evacuation policy 4. Power & internet backup generators 5. Emergency preparedness kits & trainings Which do you implement today? Which do you think will give your employees the most safety and value? #climaterisk #esg #employees https://lnkd.in/e4UnmyTW
