Creating a more inclusive PA for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

About us

Best Buddies International is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, leadership development, and inclusive living for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Founded in 1989 by Anthony Kennedy Shriver, we are now world’s largest organization dedicated to ending the social, physical and economic isolation of the 200 million people with IDD. Our programs empower the abilities of people with IDD by helping them form meaningful friendships with their peers, secure successful jobs, live independently, improve public speaking, self-advocacy and communication skills, and feel valued by society. There are 130 Best Buddies Chapters in schools across PA from elementary through college level, a thriving Citizens Program engaging adults with and without IDD in one to one friendships and a dynamic Ambassadors Program providing public speaking and self advocacy training for individuals with and without IDD throughout the year. With the social isolation brought on by the pandemic, the need for Best Buddies' mission has never been greater. Contact us today to learn how you can get involved and make an impact.

  • We are thrilled to share that the Best Buddies Pittsburgh TasteBuds event has been recognized with a prestigious Impact Award at the recent Best Buddies Staff Leadership Conference! This award highlights the collective efforts of everyone involved in making our mission-driven events impactful and successful. TasteBuds has become a symbol of dedication, creativity, and excellence in delivering unforgettable events that drive meaningful change. In less than a decade, the event has grown from 8 chefs raising $50,000 to 35 chefs and an incredible $382,000 raised in 2024. This growth has enabled Best Buddies in Pittsburgh to open 45 school friendship programs in Western Pennsylvania, creating more opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) to build lasting connections and friendships. We owe this recognition to an incredible network of committee members, board members, chefs, restaurants, sponsors, donors, volunteers, and attendees who have come together to make this event a resounding success. A very special thank you to this year's Grand Champion Lindley Diecks for her efforts in raising over $70,000 to help expand Best Buddies programs in Pennsylvania! As we celebrate this recognition, we are already planning for the next unforgettable evening! Save the date for TasteBuds 2025, happening on Monday, December 8, 2025, at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. BUT WAIT, THERE IS MORE!! We at Best Buddies in Pennsylvania are also thrilled to announce our very own Philadelphia Program Manager Olivia Steckman was awarded the 2024 Program Manager of the Year award at this years International Staff Conference! We are so proud of her efforts here in PA and also her continuous contributions to the organization as a whole!

Program Manager at Best Buddies International

I am honored to share that I have been named the 2024 Best Buddies International Program Manager of the Year. When I began my work with Best Buddies Pennsylvania a year and a half ago, I never could’ve imagined the immense impact I could make on the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in the community I grew up in, not to mention the joy and fulfillment this role would bring. The students, advisors, and volunteers I have the pleasure of working with are some of the most passionate and dedicated individuals I have ever met. The work they put in to create opportunities for people with IDD is nothing short of incredible, and I feel so lucky to be in this role supporting their efforts. I am also excited to announce that I was named a member of the 2025 Five Star Programs Team! I look forward to collaborating with my incredible colleagues and our national programs staff, leading presentations and creating resources that help move our mission of inclusion forward. Lastly, I want to thank my Pennsylvania team for their unwavering support and the opportunity to have spent the last week at our annual Staff Leadership Conference together, learning and preparing for an amazing year ahead. Many exciting things to come for 2025!
