  • Who else understands where I'm coming from? Despite being a small business owner and understanding that I may run into minor setbacks or obstacles, I can still support Michigan's new ESTA law.

Controversial thoughts on the State of Michigan’s ESTA law from a small business owner's perspective ... Earlier this week I received a newsletter from a local organization that had included an update on the small businesses that have gathered recently in regards to the impacts of the new Earned Sick Time Act & other improvements like the increase of Michigan's minimum wage. Upon reading this short update I will admit that I was instantly, for lack of better word, disgusted! After some time has passed, I am only growing more disappointed in the "concerns" that were quoted in this newsletter. Hence my want for expressing my thoughts via this post as I feel it would be beneficial for some to gain a wider perspective. For example, here are two quotes from the newsletter I received: - “We will have a hard time paying our bills due to the new laws around sick time. We will see a decrease in the amount of business we can do.” -  “The increase in the minimum wage is going to likely close one of my locations with the proposed changes. There's just not a way to offset the proposed increases.” I have faced many challenges as a small business owner. We all have. However, I am proud to state that I have not considered employee morale and retention as one of those challenges. I am a firm believer in the measurement of a business's success being defined by five core pillars, one of them being the happiness & well being of its employees. Therefore, I pay my team accordingly. Beviamo! Mobile Bar bartenders receive $40 per hour and bar managers earn $50 per hour - *plus tips! This may seem outrageous to some, but having been a bartender myself I 100% understand the hard work (i.e. the physical labor, mental workload and imbalance of work & life) that my employees and others in the industry endure. The hospitality sector has an annual turnover rate of 73.8%. My employee retention rate for 2024 is 98%. Michigan’s Earned Sick Time Act & its increase in minimum wage is not the enemy of small businesses. If you’re claiming that paying a fair wage will put you out of business, it might be time to take a closer look at your structure, strategies, profit margins and so forth. Employees are the backbone of any business. If we can’t pay them enough to meet basic living costs, or provide them with appropriate sick time, are we really building a sustainable company? Or are we simply in business to benefit only our own pockets? A well-run business should prioritize fair compensation to create a happy, motivated team. When employees are compensated well, they’re more productive, loyal, and invested in the success of the company—making it a win-win. If the cost of fair wages feels like a risk, maybe it’s not the minimum wage that needs reevaluation, but rather our business models. Thriving businesses are built on partnerships with their employees, not shortcuts at their expense.

  • I'm looking to get some insight on my recent idea of creating a bookclub amongst myself and my employees. Has anyone within my network done something like this before? If so, what was your experience? Would you recommend it to others? What about the book you read? It's our offseason, so I am hoping to continue to bond with my team and learn together!

I'm curious on who else has done / is currently encouraging book clubs at their place of work. As a small business owner and hospitality enthusiast I am always keeping an eye out for good book recommendations. Personally, I read to further my leadership skills, learn about industry trends, or to challenge my own perspective by gaining insight from others. Last night I had a thought of starting a non-mandatory book club with my employees during the off-season. Beviamo! Mobile Bar operates all year, but our peak season begins in April and ends in early October. So I thought during the down time, why not inspire my team or fill them in on what I am learning? Below I came up with some reasons why I should start this book club with my employees. I really couldn't think of a reason not to. Let me know what you think! A workplace book club may not be the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about team-building, but it can bring significant benefits to your organization. Here’s why introducing a book club could be a great move: 1. Fosters Continuous Learning – A book club promotes ongoing education and professional growth. Whether it’s business books, leadership development, or even fiction, reading expands perspectives and encourages critical thinking. 2. Enhances Team Collaboration – Discussing ideas from books fosters open communication and collaboration. Employees will engage in thoughtful discussions that can strengthen their ability to work together on projects. 3. Boosts Morale and Engagement – A book club gives employees something fun and engaging to participate in, outside of their daily work. It builds camaraderie and allows them to connect on a personal level. 4. Encourages New Ideas – Reading books together sparks creativity and brings fresh insights into the workplace. Those new perspectives can lead to innovative ideas and solutions for the business. 5. Builds a Learning Culture – By creating a book club, you’re showing your commitment to a culture of continuous learning and growth. This can attract top talent and retain employees who value personal and professional development. A book club is a simple yet powerful way to enhance learning, build stronger relationships, foster healthy conversation, and inspire fresh ideas in the workplace. What do you think? If you have been a participant or the one to encourage a book club at your workplace, was it successful? Did you do it again? Would you do it again? What book did you read? #workplaceculture #bookclub #leadershipdevelopment #teambuilding #learninganddevelopment #offseason #hospitalityindustry

☀️Our SummerFest celebration at the Clubhouse was nothing short of amazing. Take a look — the pictures speak for themselves. SummerFest was our chance to get together with our extended CARNEVALE team, both in-house and partners, on one of the best nights of summer. Dusting off our traditional bocce ball tournament was a blast and it brought out the competitive side for sure. And Greek food from Greekshore plus drinks from Beviamo! Mobile Bar were *chef's kiss*, truly great. Thank you to everyone who came out to take a night off and celebrate our accomplishments together.

  • Planning Your Wedding? Or Corporate Party? Here is some advice on when and where to start looking for your bartender! In our opinion, one of the essential elements for a successful celebration is securing a talented bartender. Whether you’re envisioning a signature cocktail or simply ensuring smooth service, here’s a guide on when to start contacting bartenders for your big day. 🍹🥂 1. Start Early – Ideally 6-9 Months in Advance The best bartenders are in high demand, especially during peak wedding season. To ensure you secure your first-choice professional, it’s wise to start your search and make initial contact 6 to 9 months before your wedding date. This timeframe gives you ample opportunity to explore options, conduct tastings, and finalize your choice without the pressure of last-minute decisions. 2. Consider Your Event Date If your event falls during peak event season (spring and summer months), holiday weekends, or popular dates (like New Year’s Eve), you’ll need to act even faster. Bartenders’ schedules fill up quickly during these times, so reaching out as early as 9-12 months in advance can be beneficial. 3. Flexibility is Key If you’re planning an event with a shorter timeline, don’t panic! While starting early is ideal, many bartenders can accommodate shorter notice, especially during off-peak seasons. Flexibility with your date and openness to different options can help you secure a great bartender even on a tighter schedule. 4. Inquire About Availability and Services When you contact potential bartenders, ask about their availability and the range of services they offer. Do they provide custom cocktails? Are they equipped to handle large crowds? Understanding these details will help you make an informed decision. P.S. Beviamo! Mobile Bar can do all of the above + more! (: 5. Schedule Tastings and Consultations Once you’ve narrowed down your choices, schedule tastings and consultations to discuss your vision, preferences, and any specific requirements. This step ensures that the bartender can tailor their services to your unique needs and helps establish a good working relationship. 6. Confirm and Finalize Details After selecting your bartender, confirm all details in writing, including the date, time, services, and payment terms. This clarity helps avoid any misunderstandings and ensures that everything runs smoothly on your wedding day. Starting your bartender search early not only guarantees you the best talent but also gives you peace of mind as you plan your special day. Cheers to a memorable celebration! 🥂

Cost Benefits: Mobile Bar Service vs. Traditional Bar Catering Planning an event and weighing your options for bar services? Here’s why a mobile bar service might be the more cost-effective choice compared to traditional bar catering: 1. All-Inclusive Packages: Mobile Bar Service: Often offers all-inclusive packages covering everything from drinks and glassware to bartenders and setup. This can simplify budgeting and reduce unexpected costs. Traditional Bar Catering: May require separate fees for each service element, leading to higher overall costs. 2. Flexibility and Customization: Mobile Bar Service: Typically more flexible in terms of location and setup, allowing you to choose a venue that fits your budget. They often provide tailored drink menus, reducing waste and ensuring you only pay for what you need. Traditional Bar Catering: Might be restricted by venue partnerships and have set packages that may not align with your specific needs, potentially leading to overspending on unnecessary items. 3. Reduced Staffing Costs: Mobile Bar Service: Mobile bars usually come with their own staff, which can be more cost-effective than hiring additional staff through a separate caterer. Traditional Bar Catering: You may need to hire extra staff to manage the bar, adding to your overall costs. 4. Transportation and Logistics:   Mobile Bar Service: Mobile bars are designed for easy transportation and quick setup, often resulting in lower logistical costs. Traditional Bar Catering: Can incur higher costs for transporting equipment and supplies, especially if the venue is distant or has complex requirements. 5. Enhanced Guest Experience:   Mobile Bar Service: Creates a unique and engaging focal point at your event, often leading to higher guest satisfaction and a better overall experience—worth the investment. Traditional Bar Catering: While functional, it might lack the novelty and personalized touch of a mobile bar, which can make your event feel less special. 6. Transparency and Control: Mobile Bar Service: Offers transparent pricing with detailed breakdowns, allowing you to see exactly where your money is going and make adjustments as needed. Traditional Bar Catering: Pricing can sometimes be less transparent, with hidden fees and charges that can inflate your budget unexpectedly. Choosing a mobile bar service can be a savvy decision, offering flexibility, transparency, and unique experiences that enhance your event while keeping costs manageable. Not to mention, ehhhem ...
