Malaysian documentary filmmaker Beatrice Leong talks about the power of candidly sharing your story. Hear more on my latest podcast episode: https://lnkd.in/eDMNiSZQ Text in image is a quote from Beatrice: “ I saw the importance of being able to tell your story your way. It's not about 'my story is the right one' or 'their story is the wrong one,' but to be able to just tell your story, in your way.”

Last year, Beatrice Leong directed a three-minute commercial for Chinese New Year about autism acceptance that was watched all over the world. After watching the commercial a few times (while shedding a few more tears than I'd like to admit), I knew I had to interview her on my podcast! Beatrice is a Malaysian entrepreneur and documentary filmmaker who based the commercial on her struggles growing up as an autistic girl. She was surprised to hear how deeply it resonated with girls and women around the world, whether they were autistic or not. On this episode, Beatrice describes the origin story behind that commercial, as well as the mental health struggles and misdiagnoses she faced before her autism diagnosis at age 35. She shares how the lack of adult autism resources in Malaysia inspired her activism for autism and for women and girls in Asia. We also discuss the power of bravely sharing your own story – and how she’s depicting her story fully for the first time in "The Myth of Monsters," the full-length feature film she's developing. “Although music is my expertise more than #autism advocacy, I find that I tend to reach more people with autism content instead of music... but as long as I can help somebody with whatever life experience I have and connect with new people, then I'm happy.” Hear more from Adin Boyer on my latest podcast episode: https://lnkd.in/eVGBqpxA
