  • Here I demonstrate juggling basketballs. This is a great exercise for hand eye coordination. I still remember the first time I saw someone doing this. I was in the gym as a 14 or 15 year old and seeing this done by Tiffany Schettig, who went to a standout career playing guard for Manhattan. When I worked my first basketball camp with Coach John Swogger, he taught the campers how to juggle tennis balls. I thought if they are learning to juggle - then I should too! A great way to do this is for time or counting repetitions. If you want to put the pressure on people - have everyone start juggling and last one remaining wins! #basketball

  • Circle Ball Handling with Basketball Contact - here the offensive player looks to “cover” the circle by dribbling within the circle. They can use change of direction and moves to get the basketball where they want it to be. The defensive player has a basketball and they give contact throughout the drill. This should be the equivalent of a no a call when contact is made in a game. This is a great way for a ball handler to improve playing vs contact in a controlled setting.

  • Finishing with basketball contact - learning to finish around the basket can be difficult. It gets even harder when you have to go thru contact. Here is a simple way you can build into contact by using a basketball. *Players can partner up and go from different angles *Goal is that the offense finishes the play and makes the shot *We tell the offense that the contact is a "no call" by the referee.

  • Looking to improve your hand eye coordination? Here are “3 Easy Ways” that I have found that will do that. 1) Squeezes - continuously squeeze the ball in your finger tips, move your arm higher and lower to increase difficulty 2) Tosses - catch and toss the ball up and down, change the height and arm angle as you go 3) Spins - spin the ball inside, outside, under, and over repeatedly with your finger tips. Give each of these a try for 10-15 seconds and do a set with your right and left hands.

  • The Indiana Fever returned to action last night and Caitlin Clark picked up right where she left off! When watching her play - what impresses me most may be here passing skills! She has the ability to make her teammates better and can find them with the #basketball at any time. On this play her eyes are up the court and with this pass she finds Kelsey Mitchell with a hit ahead in transition for the lay up. She then drives to the basket and finds a cutting Mitchell for another finish for the Fever.

  • Here are two great 1 on 1 #basketball drills that you can use in small group or team practice settings. These drills are great to teach players to finish vs. a defender and a contact situation. Drill 1 - Faceoff from the Nail - the ball is placed on the nail, both players get into a ready position. When the offensive player picks up the basketball it becomes live 1 on 1. The offense should try to take the defender off their line. The defense is at a disadvantage and must recover to a position in which they can stop the offensive player. Drill 2 - Dags Disadvantage from the Wing - the offensive player begins with the basketball behind the three point line. The defender is put at a disadvantage and will put his outside fore arm on the hip of the offensive player. When the offensive player goes, they will try to take the defender off their line. The defensive player must recover and get into a position which they can stop the offensive player.
