Juan Carlos Villaseñor-Derbez - Asst. Prof. in the Dept. of Environmental Science and Policy, & a Core Faculty member at the University of Miami Frost Institute for Data Science & Computing. Juan Carlos’ research seeks to estimate costs & benefits of MPAs, understand the resilience & vulnerability of coastal communities & ecosystems to environmental shocks, & design & simulate market-based conservation interventions. DR. TIM COLE, OBE - CEO of rePLANET, which funds ecosystem restoration & protection using carbon & biodiversity credits in 5 main markets: mangrove restoration, restoration of native forest, increasing biodiversity in new marine reserves, protecting under-threat high-value nature reserves, & quantifying biodiversity uplift achieved from investment in supply chains. Kevin Whilden - Co-Founder of Seatrees, a 501c3 non-profit based in California. Seatrees protects & restores coastal ecosystems around the world & just launched Seatrees Biodiversity Blocks which regenerate mangrove forests in Kenya. Kevin has 25 years of experience in carbon markets & solutions to climate change & biodiversity loss.
