What is the state of STEM diversity and Blacks in the age of no affirmative action and diversity, equity, and inclusion program? Even though these programs are helpful the number one challenge facing Blacks and their participation in STEM is a lack of an internal community focus in participating in STEM. What do you think? I look forward to your insights. https://lnkd.in/e8QV2gHX

STEM Diversity and the Rise of the American STEM Oligarchs: Implications for the USA

I have talked about STEM diversity in the context of public school. In 2024, more than 3.7 million children in the United States were homeschooled, either partially or fully. This is about 6.73% of all school-aged children in the country. In 2019, the homeschooling rate among students ages 5 to 17 with a grade equivalent of kindergarten through 12th grade varied by race/ethnicity. A higher percentage of White students were homeschooled (4.0 percent) than Hispanic students (1.9 percent) and Black students (1.2 percent). Studies show that while white students still have the highest homeschooling rate, Hispanic and Black students are increasingly represented in homeschooling demographics. Promotion of STEM diversity within the homeschool setting is just as important as the promotion of STEM diversity within the public school. I share my thoughts about STEM diversity and home schooling in today's blog. https://lnkd.in/eTBN69f7

This is an interesting video on STEM diveristy, "From Alpha to Authentic: Evolving Gender Narratives in STEM." Gender diversity in STEM is constantly evolving. But how far have we come and what do we still need to do to make it more equal? To discuss this, I am joined by a panel of special guests, Amber Penrose, Gregory Antonios and Philipp Baaske. We explore each other’s experiences with gender diversity in STEM. Getting perspectives from both women and men on this topic is essential for the situation to improve. We discuss improvements we’ve seen in biological sciences but persistent issues in retaining women in higher positions. We also talk about the need for supportive work environments, mentorship, and leadership that values diversity. The conversation underscored the necessity of inclusive leadership, mentorship, and open dialogue to foster genuine diversity and equality in STEM. There are lots of challenges and fears surrounding these topics, but the more conversations like this that we have, the better things will become. “The further you get up the ladder the less women there are.”- Amber Penrose https://lnkd.in/ecz9x_AY

STEM entrepreneurship and financing is dominated by men. In the video short "Breaking Stereotypes Girls in STEM" suggests that there is a reason for that divide. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics are critical fields shaping our future, but there's a worrying trend that starts as early as age 6 according to the video. The video goes on to state that studies have shown that children as young as six perceive boys to be better at computer science and engineering than girls. Watch the video and share what you think. https://lnkd.in/ePAiSBUD
