BioMed Realty’s property managers recognize that their role goes beyond providing great lab buildings. They foster work environments that meet and exceed client expectations with curated amenity programs and events that encourage innovation and the exchange of ideas. This month, the BioMed Realty property management teams received several awards from the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA International). At the BOMA San Diego awards ceremony, our Company earned awards for hosting BOMA education events at two San Diego properties – Discover Campus and Moda Sorrento. The events included seminars on emergency preparedness training, women in business, life science educational seminars, and BOMA Education and Foundations courses. BOMA also honored BioMed Realty’s Monique Adley, Director, Operations, as a Rising Star for her role as co-leader of the organization’s Education Committee. The committee decides the topics and formats for the year’s trainings – and with Monique at the helm, many of the sessions focused on the life sciences. All of Monique’s hard work has resulted in greater education and networking opportunities for BOMA’s property managers. At the BOMA Boston TOBY and Industry Awards, BioMed Realty’s Mary Farley, Assistant Property Manager, received the Larry Lenrow CRE Education Scholarship. The scholarship was created to support the professional development of future leaders. Mary is an active member of BOMA’s Emerging Professionals group, and she plans on leveraging the scholarship support toward earning her Real Property Administrator (RPA) designation. Congratulations to Monique and Mary! #BioMedRealty #LifeSciences

BioMed Realty’s Bill Kane, President, East Coast & UK Markets, recently interviewed with Steve Adams of Banker & Tradesman to discuss the Boston-Cambridge life science real estate market, recent milestones at the 585 Kendall development, and the highly-nuanced relocation of the Gas Transfer Station last year. In talking about the construction at 585 Kendall, Bill said: “We were talking about building a 600,000-square-foot lab building in an area where we have other facilities in close proximity. We like to build microclusters so tenants can ebb and flow, and that led to Takeda Pharmaceuticals leasing the whole building. We needed a certain footprint, and we controlled one parcel but we did not control the Eversource parcel. “Our local head of development, Salvatore Zinno, effectively ran the process and convened community stakeholders, and people knew he was true to his word. As of now, we’re finalizing the large concrete core of 585 Kendall, and it’s starting to reach the penthouse level of the lab building. This is my favorite part of the project. A second tower crane is going to be visible from all parts of Boston and Cambridge, and raising structural steel, so you get to see the physicality of the building on a weekly basis.” Several members of BioMed Realty's Boston-Cambridge team at 585 Kendall (left to right): - Salvatore Zinno, Senior Vice President, Development - Carlye Murphy, Senior Vice President, Assistant General Counsel - Isabel Acuna, Director, Development - Bill Kane, President, East Coast & UK Markets
