Meet ACatechol, a bioinspired startup tackling one of healthcare’s most pressing challenges: catheter-associated bloodstream infections (CRBSIs), which claim over 5 million lives annually. Inspired by marine organisms, ACatechol has developed a revolutionary catheter surface that repels biofilm formation using biofilm-repelling zwitterionic properties and a 3D gradient structure. This innovation, proven to reduce infection rates by over 40% in preclinical studies, holds the potential to transform patient care while significantly cutting biohazard waste and CO2 emissions.
