We welcome what we believe to be a significant development in web3 gaming governance. The Gibraltar Supreme Court has ordered the preservation of 461M $PLAY tokens (46% of total supply) in Ready Games' legal action to recover control of its Gibraltar subsidiary, which was established to launch the $PLAY token. This builds on Ready's January Delaware court victory protecting their technology and IP rights, as reported by Dean Takahashi in VentureBeat last month [https://lnkd.in/gZbzk_yZ]. As lead investors in Ready Games' $8.5M raise alongside Take-Two's Strauss Zelnick and Comcast Ventures, we backed their vision of enabling mainstream game developers to integrate blockchain features. We believe the court's intervention demonstrates that proper governance and asset protection are taking shape in web3 gaming. We remain committed to Ready Games' mission of building sustainable blockchain infrastructure for the gaming industry. As the web3 gaming sector evolves, strong legal frameworks and proper corporate governance are essential to unlocking the technology's full potential. Full press release: https://lnkd.in/gcHgV6jV

🙌 Our very own Carry1st teamed up with market research firm Newzoo to shed light on the African gaming market in Bloomberg. The African continent's gaming potential is often overlooked and we are excited to be supporting it.
Honored to be featured in Bloomberg and SEMAFOR to remark on the incredible growth of the African gaming market as revealed in a new report by Newzoo and Carry1st! Some key takeaways (since the articles may be hidden behind a paywall..): 🚀 The African gaming market grew from $1.6 billion in 2023 to $1.8 billion in 2024, representing a 12.4% YoY increase (which is SIX times faster than the global average of 2.1% 🤯 ) 🎮 Total number of gamers in Africa is now 350 MILLION in 2025, up 32 million from 2024 (10% YoY increase) 📱 Mobile gaming continues to dominate, accounting for $1.6 billion (90%) of the total $1.8 billion market, with a 14% YoY increase 🌍 Top countries by revenue: 🇪🇬 Egypt led with $368 million in revenue, followed by 🇳🇬 Nigeria at $300 million and 🇿🇦 South Africa at $278 million (all key Carry1st countries 👀 ). The key drivers of growth? - Increased smartphone accessibility across the continent (brands like Transsion are increasingly making low-cost, gaming-capable devices) - A booming young population that is digitally-native and tech-savvy (median age on the continent is 20 years old) - Improving infrastructure specifically for gamers, such as dedicated servers, local payment methods, and community platforms (not-so-subtle plug for our contributions here: COD:M and VALORANT servers in ZA + NG, Pay1st / Carry1st Shop for gamers, Carry1st Africa Cup) Gaming in Africa is booming, and we're at the heart of it -- this growth is not slowing down any time soon 🚀 Grateful to have shared insights in these pieces—check them out and let me know what you think below! 👇 📖 Bloomberg: https://lnkd.in/dQPn6uvA 📖 Semafor: https://lnkd.in/dfehAJuy #gaming #africa

We believe Beamable is well-positioned to help establish a new standard for decentralized infrastructure in gaming. Its technology and existing market demand, combined with the potential of DePIN, could create a compelling opportunity for game developers—across both Web2 and Web3—to build, expand, and thrive at scale.
Big news today! Beamable raised $13.5M in our Series A, led by BITKRAFT Ventures to support our Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Network (DePIN) for game backends and live services! https://lnkd.in/ge6czeu7

💡 Applied Game Mechanics: Reimagining Engagement for Lasting Behavior Change We’re thrilled to launch the first article in our new series exploring Applied Game Mechanics (AGM), where behavioral psychology meets game design principles to potentially drive meaningful and lasting behavior change. In this piece from our very own Candace K., we explore how AGM evolves beyond traditional gamification techniques like streaks, badges, and leaderboards to tackle deeper challenges in human motivation and engagement. From habit formation to democratizing access to opportunities that were previously out of reach, we believe AGM offers a dynamic framework for designing better systems across industries, while helping people do the things they want to do with the least amount of friction. 👉 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eAFuvFdw

Where is the key to success for AI startups? Somewhere in the middle, according to Sebastian Park. 🤔
The Real #AI Consumer Gap: It's The Middleware Been looking at hundreds of AI startups lately. Something feels off with most of them, and I think I know why. Everyone's playing at the extremes: Top end: Building $100M-$1B+ foundation models (Great if you're OpenAI with that Altman money. Like building a Dodgers roster when you're running a minor league team) Bottom end: Making products where bigger models just eat everyone's lunch (More Data + More Compute > Clever Heuristics, every time) But here's the thing no one's talking about: How do you make probabilistic AI spit out deterministic human experiences? Quick story: At Infinite Canvas, our WordCraft.gg asked AI to split "Cardboard Box" and got "Cube" and "Paper". Technically correct. Users hated it. This isn't a model problem - it's an interpretation problem. The next wave of valuable AI companies won't be building bigger models or shinier apps. They'll be the ones who crack the code on making AI speak human consistently. Time to start looking at the middle of the stack. #AI #Innovation #Tech #Startups #ProductDevelopment Clip from the lovely Naavik and Aaron Bush (https://lnkd.in/gEQmSUnf)

We fully support Ready Games during this time.
🚨 Important Announcement for the Web3 Gaming Community: I'm pleased to share that Ready Games secured a significant victory in Delaware's Court of Chancery on January 3rd, protecting our pioneering blockchain gaming technology and infrastructure. After an emergency hearing over New Year's weekend, Vice Chancellor Paul A. Fioravanti Jr. granted our motion for a temporary restraining order to restore Ready Games' access to critical technology infrastructure and IP. This ruling comes just weeks after the December 10th launch of the $PLAY token by Ready Maker (Gibraltar) Limited, operating as PLAY. The token launch, which Ready Games alleges violated contractual obligations to its investors, has raised significant concerns among our stakeholders. Ready Games has developed essential technology enabling game publishers to seamlessly integrate blockchain features into existing games. This technology was developed with $8.5M in backing from leading gaming and technology investors including BITKRAFT Ventures, Take-Two's Strauss Zelnick, Comcast Ventures, and Jason Calacanis. I want to express my gratitude to our outstanding legal team at Covington & Burling LLP, particularly Ali Mojibi and Robert Gianchetti, along with our Delaware counsel at Potter Anderson, who worked through the holiday period to protect our stakeholders' interests. This is just the beginning of our efforts to safeguard the legitimate interests of our investors and the integrity of our technology in the blockchain gaming space. 📰 Read the full story: https://lnkd.in/e6Qy9fPy #Gaming #Blockchain #Web3 #GameDev #Innovation #LegalTech

In a recent article by VentureBeat, PitchBook stated that the number of active investors in game development is expected to decline in 2025 despite gaming’s massive $200 billion+ global market size. This disconnect highlights a critical reality: games remain underinvested, even as they drive cultural and technological innovation across industries like AI, Web3, and immersive tech. At BITKRAFT Ventures, we believe gaming is more than entertainment—we see it as the next frontier for innovation and growth.
