About us
The Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative—a program of the Bloomberg Center for Cities at Harvard University—is a collaboration between Harvard Kennedy School, Harvard Business School, and Bloomberg Philanthropies. Its mission is to equip mayors and senior city officials to tackle complex challenges in their cities and improve the quality of life of their residents. The Initiative is committed to advancing research and developing new curriculum and teaching tools to help city leaders solve real-world problems. This approach is designed to help unlock the full potential and optimize the performance of cities. If mayors and their organizations thrive, cities can adapt, endure, and thrive as well.

Tune in live TODAY at 11:00 a.m. to a panel discussion with research from the Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative on violence against women mayors. Featuring scholars Nazita Lajevardi and Sofia Collignon: https://lnkd.in/dyaD5sdC #EVAW #cityresearch #Leadership #NoMore #PeaceOneDay #GenderEquality
Violence against women and girls is one of the most pervasive human rights violations worldwide. Nearly 1 in 3 women have experienced violence, and over 5 women or girls are tragically killed by a family member every hour. Yet, only 5% of global government aid is allocated to addressing this crisis, with less than 0.2% focused on prevention. This #EVAWDay, join us in raising awareness and demanding action. On November 25th, we’re teaming up with Peace One Day, Centre for Public Impact, and Avon for a global broadcast starting at 1:00pm GMT/8:00am EST. Tune in for insightful panels and interviews aimed at mobilizing efforts to end violence against women and girls. On Monday, we invite you to share how you or your organization are working to support survivors and prevent gender-based violence. Comment on the livestream or tag us and use #EVAWDay in your posts to join the conservation — we’ll be spotlighting viewer messages and efforts across our platforms throughout the day. Let's join forces to create a world free from gender-based violence and oppression. Tune in at peaceoneday.org or ours and Peace One Day’s social channels.

New Bedford city leaders joined the Data track—part of the yearlong program for mayors from the Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative—looking to solve for challenges in their permitting process. After completing the track with guidance from Bloomberg Center for Government Excellence, the city made significant progress on permitting and was able to build capacity and apply their learnings to address other problems, leading to greater success in fire prevention.
