📣Yesterday, BlueLightS Project and its sister projects SHORE and ProBleu teamed up for a stand at Day 2 of #EuropeanOceanDays. 🛞Thanks to our spinning wheel, all three projects had a time to shine: whilst Meritxell Turó Silanes and Sonia Liñán Moyano (ProBleu) and Maëva Voltz and Anaïs Loudières (SHORE) focused on empowering students and teachers to bring the blue into their classrooms, Pierre Strosser and Molly Wingate had lots to say about BlueLightS' ongoing experimentation in 9 European countries, exploring how we can infuse 🌊 blue education into the system as a whole. ⚙️An opportunity to talk about all the cogs that influence the European education machine: ➡️ national and local governance ➡️ but also teacher trainers, ➡️ textbook authors, ➡️ exam boards, and many more. 🙌 Thank you to everyone who came by for your support and ideas... more coming soon from our blue sisterhood!

Strengthening Blue Education in Europe 🎓💙 How can we bring ocean and river knowledge into classrooms and make a real impact? That was one of the question raised during Monday’s workshop- organised with ProBleu and SHORE Community at #EuropeanOceanDays! Key takeaway? We need to involve kids from the very beginning - not just in school but in fun, hands-on activities beyond biology. 🌍🛶 "When we talk about blue education, it's always about biology - but it’s not always about it." By showcasing cool careers, engaging activities, and a positive connection with water, we can ensure that children see the ocean as exciting and full of opportunities - not something distant or overwhelming. ✨ The future of ocean protection starts in the classroom! Let’s inspire the next generation to think, explore, and innovate. #BlueEducation #MissionOcean #MakeEUBlue #FutureOceanLeaders

Tourism and Sea Turtles: A Delicate Balance 🐢 Sea turtles are iconic symbols of marine biodiversity, but their survival is increasingly at risk due to unsustainable tourism practices. Activities like overcrowded beaches, disruptive lighting, and poorly managed ecotourism can harm nesting sites and hatchlings. However, responsible tourism offers hope. By supporting eco-friendly initiatives and respecting wildlife habitats, visitors can help protect these incredible creatures while enjoying the wonders of our ocean. At BlueLightS, we believe in the power of education to foster sustainable behaviour. By promoting ocean literacy, we empower communities, educators, and young people to protect marine life and support responsible tourism practices. 📘#BlueLightS BlueLingo 101: What is mixotrophy? We often think of life on Earth as either plants or animals, but some organisms don’t fit neatly into these categories. Mixotrophy is how certain tiny ocean algae survive — by photosynthesising like plants and eating like animals. This unique strategy can trigger harmful algal blooms, impacting marine life and humans. Understanding mixotrophy is key to improving predictions of these blooms and protecting marine ecosystems.🌊 #BlueEducation #sustainability #OceanScience #oceanliteracy #ocean #education #BlueEconomy
