Last week, BSF’s Women’s Affinity Group hosted a special presentation with Hon. Shira A. Scheindlin and Hon. Ursula Ungaro titled, “How to Command the Courtroom with Preparation and Personal Presence.” The session provided valuable insights on elevating your courtroom presence, including how to fully engage judges and jurors, techniques for managing stress and building confidence, and practical exercises to enhance oral advocacy skills. #DEI #womenempowerment #triallawyer

On Saturday, the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York carried out the largest Thanksgiving food distribution in our area’s history, delivering 250,000 pounds of food across 26 distribution sites and reaching over 30,000 people. It was an honor to assist with this effort as part of our firm-wide “Day of Service” initiative. Thank you to the Regional Food Bank for your tireless efforts to serve our community and to my Boies Schiller Flexner LLP colleagues for volunteering your time to help make this momentous feat possible.

Law Student at Università degli Studi di Trento - Facoltà di Giurispridenza | LL.M. Graduate in Negotiation & Dispute Resolution at Washington University in St. Louis - School of Law | Erasmus Lund University
As part of the #ConflictManagersofTomorrow Project by the Università di Trento, today’s training session brought together the student team that will proudly represent the Faculty of Law at the 20th ICC #International #Commercial #Mediation #Competition. The session was hosted by Boies Schiller Flexner Italy, the sponsoring law firm, at their Milan office—thanks to Faculty Alumnus, Attorney Jacopo Mosca. This initiative highlights how critical it is for law firms to invest in the education and training of law students—future legal professionals who may one day join their ranks. By equipping them with skills in negotiation and mediation, firms not only enhance their future talent pool but also contribute to shaping a more effective and collaborative legal community. The team: Federica Carluccio, Vittoria Mari, Margherita Rodeschini, Dimitri Stevanato The coaches: Elisa Ferretto, Andrea Dongili This marks yet another exciting chapter of collaboration between Washington University in St. Louis School of Law and its outstanding LLM Negotiation & Dispute Resolution Program, led by the exceptional Karen Tokarz, and the Conflict Managers of Tomorrow Project (https://lnkd.in/d3-4Xyed), founded and coordinated by the brilliant Silvana Dalla Bontà, without whom none of this would be possible! #negotiation #mediation #internationalcompetition

We’re proud to have supported Montero Mining and Exploration Ltd. in successfully resolving this case after its Wigu Hill rare earth element project - and many years of exploration and investment - were expropriated. With a top notch team of counsel (Boies Schiller Flexner LLP and Jeantet - avocats) and experts (SRK Consulting) this partnership shows once again how dispute funding can drive positive outcomes for investors deprived of their rights.
A Canadian mining company says Tanzania has agreed to pay US$27 million to settle an International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) case over the revocation of mining licences – the third settlement the state has reached with investors who held those permits. Toby F. reports.

We thoroughly enjoyed hosting a reunion for former clerks of the Hon. Shira A. Scheindlin last night. It was clear from the gathering and the numerous toasts that her clerks are formidable attorneys in their own right, and that her impact on their careers was significant. We know that to be true in our Chairman-elect Matthew L. Schwartz (a former Judge Scheindlin clerk), and it was great to have so many others at the event.

The BSF team representing Jeffrey Epstein victims against his lawyer Darren Indyke and his accountant Richard Kahn received a shout-out in ALM's Litigator of the Week coverage last Friday for a novel win on a motion to compel privileged information under the crime-fraud exception. In the case, a class action alleging that the defendants facilitated the sexual abuse and trafficking of hundreds of young women over a 20-year period, we argued that Indyke was wrongfully hiding behind the attorney-client privilege to prevent the disclosure of critical documents in discovery. Sigrid McCawley and Andrew Villacastin argued the motion to compel, and last week U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian granted the motion. Congratulations to the entire team, including David Boies, Sigrid McCawley, Andrew Villacastin, Daniel Crispino Jr., Alex Law, Megan Nyman, Amanda Iserson, Naomi Hardin, and Rachael Schafer.
