Thank you to Mark Arts, MD PhD from The Hague, The Netherlands who presented the phase I results and the interim phase II multicenter RCT results at the 30th anniversary of the Brussels International Spine Symposium. The interim results from phase II further reinforce the comparative accuracy of the Bolt® Navigation System as equivalent to CT-Nav and superior to fluoro-assisted placement of thoracolumbar pedicle screws demonstrated in the phase I accuracy study published by The Spine Journal earlier this year. Cost comparison of robotic TLIF vs Navigated TLIF versus free hand/fluoro TLIF. The robotic ones cost about 10K extra per case in terms of disposables. It's not just the capital outlay that must be put into the mix but also the cost per case. Robotics will struggle to get into the spine-ASC world if each case costs the ASC another 10k. Navigation on the other hand, did not push the disposables cost up much compared to freehand. (did I say I love NAV?).
