I watched with interest the hype about "A Man on the Inside". This new series released on Netflix starring Ted Danson, was being touted as a celebration of aging. The series was based on a true story of an older man who gets a job as a spy for a private investigator and goes undercover in a retirement residence to discover who is committing theft. Given my interest in aging and longevity, I started watching the series with great anticipation. To be honest, the first three episodes left me feeling a little lack luster. I felt that there were some old stereotypes that were starting to be embraced. Charles (played by Ted Danson) seemed a bit awkward and as he questioned his ability to work, struggled with technology and his character seemed a bit silly. I thought "oh no, more hype than substance". I put the series on hold and thought I would get back to it some other time. But then something happened. Three people asked me if I had watched the series as all three of them had binge watched it and couldn't stop raving about it. So back I went to my TV and started watching episode four. That's when I got hooked and binge watched the rest of the series. Here's my take on the series and where I think they got it right - and why I now believe it's well worth the watch. #aging #longevity #series #netflix #amanontheinside https://lnkd.in/e5zBnP8e

Think money will guarantee you happiness in retirement? As Mike Drak shares with the The Globe and Mail, that is definitely not the case. Mike shares his experience with retirement over the past ten years and what he has learned. His advice for others approaching retirement, "...do a lot of self-reflection. Try to understand the type of person you are and what you need. For some, it’s full retirement. For others, it’s working part-time. We all have different needs and interests. It’s important to know what will make you happy in retirement." Absolutely Mike! #aging #longevity #retirement #retirementplanning https://lnkd.in/eQ4JJK7H

When someone retires, it's easy to enter a "honeymoon" stage and want to just spend time resting and relaxing. But when does all this rest and relaxation become a concern? That was the question posed to our resident Retirement Coach, Antoinette Petrillo CPRC, CFP. She was asked; Dear Retirement Coach; My spouse just retired and is treating every day like it's the weekend. He's staying up late, sleeping in and starting to drink with his other retired friends in the afternoon. I want him to have fun but am worried that this is going to become a long term habit and isn't really good for him. What do you suggest I do? Treating retirement like it's the weekend Read what advice Antoinette had to share. #aging #longevity #retirement #retirementplanning #purpose #relationships #habits https://lnkd.in/e6WVn73k

Planning on taking a trip anytime soon? Are you going to book it yourself? Did you know; “...travellers today visited 277 different web pages before booking a trip, up more than seven-fold over 2013. The travel booking process is a growing time and energy expense during a time when consumers are short on both.” So if you're looking to save some time, you might want to consider using a Travel Advisor. As Danny Slupeiks shares - not only might they save you time but also some money and could provide some valuable support too. https://lnkd.in/gaGWPiCV #aging #longevity #travel #traveltips #travelagent #traveladvisor #traveltuesday

After years of saving it can be difficult to retire and then start spending your savings. As Kurt Rosentreter shares with CTV News, knowing your numbers and how you will manage your cash flow in retirement is critical and something that should be figured out a couple of years before you actually retire. #aging #longevity #retirement #retirementplanning #money #savings #finances #cashflow https://lnkd.in/eF5vCTzp

Do you think you're immune to scammers? I thought I was. I believed I would be able to easily tell if I was ever being scammed. I naively thought that only happened to "older people". Turns out I was wrong. We were (nearly) scammed in the "grandparent scam" (but as parents). This elaborate and well constructed scam nearly pulled us in. As I reflect back on my experience now, it's seems quite obvious that I should have picked it up from the start. But what we fail to realize is that when our emotions are running high, we can bypass many potential red flags. I wanted to share my story to highlight how advanced these scams are and how anyone can get pulled in. The good news is that there are some AI technologies now being developed to help combat this. Hopefully by educating ourselves of scammer practices plus the addition of more technology solutions helping to protect us, we can all be safer and keep the scammers away - and ideally put them completely out of business. Stay safe out there! (If you're interested - you can read more about my personal experience in the following article) https://lnkd.in/dAKfqncU #aging #longevity #finances #scams #scammers #technology #artificialintelligence #AI

We are quickly seeing how fast artificial intelligence (AI) is advancing and infiltrating our lives. So how would you feel about this happening after your gone? This is not out of a science fiction novel – it’s actually something people are working on today. The world of artificial intelligence (AI) is exploring ways to immortalize our memories. And this is well beyond Facebook, Instagram and Tik Tok. We're talking about your actual memories being uploaded to the cloud. Personally, I can see there being some value in my family having access to my memories when I’m no longer here. Sort of like replacing “Hey Google” or “Alexa” with “Hey Mom“. I can just imagine being “beamed up” to join the family for special occasions. What was our family history for disease, what were some of our family traditions, what were my favourite recipes all stored in some database somewhere all available to be served up in an avatar of my choosing (of course my vanity would likely have me choose an avatar image from my earlier years). But my major concern with any of this is how this data would be stored and accessed. It's not so much for me personally (afterall, I would be gone) but depending on what is stored, I wonder if this information could possibly be mined to be used in a negative way against future generations. I would compare the capturing of this personal data in some ways similar to documenting things in a diary. Depending on what you write in your diary this could be something you don’t mind future generations reading about or not. But I think again it comes back to an individual’s choice and the conditions it’s shared. At any rate, one thing is for sure. Technology continues to expand and invade areas that we never thought it would - and potentially has the power to literally beam us into the future even after we're gone. https://lnkd.in/e_bdxaTp #aging #longevity #technology #artificialintelligence #technology #privacy #memories

BETTER RELATIONSHIPS, MAKE BETTER BRAINS Did you know your brain craves connection just as much as your heart does? Feeling connected isn’t just good for your soul; it’s essential for your brain. When we ignore this need, the effects can be profound. Loneliness, as Dr. John Cacioppo and Dr. Stephanie Cacioppo have shown in their research, isn’t just a passing mood—it’s a state that impacts both our bodies and our brains. Chronic loneliness can disrupt your immune system, spike stress levels, and even lead to cognitive decline. But relationships don’t just help us survive—they help us thrive. According to Dr. Robert Waldinger, director of the Harvard Study of Adult Development—the longest-running study on happiness—strong, supportive relationships are not only key to a fulfilling life but also to a healthy one. The quality of our relationships is one of the best predictors of long-term health and happiness. Forget the number of friends you have on social media—what matters most is the depth and quality of your connections. So, if you’re chasing fame or money, consider adding meaningful friendships to your list of priorities. Strong relationships act like a buffer, protecting your brain and body from life’s inevitable challenges. Moreover, without people to share in our celebrations, life can feel painfully isolating. Dr. Naomi Eisenberger and Dr. Matthew Lieberman’s work in social neuroscience, has shown that the brain processes social pain—such as rejection or loneliness—in much of the same way as it processes physical pain. Feeling excluded or isolated doesn’t just metaphorically hurt. The brain regions activated by physical pain are the same regions that light up during emotional distress. On the bright side, meaningful connections heal. They reduce stress, boost your immune system, and help safeguard memories! Join us this Wednesday at 12:00 PM EST for the Brain Booster Challenge hosted in association with Susan Williams of Booming Encore This week we’ll dive into the science of connection and brain health, explore simple ways to nurture relationships, and discover how small changes can lead to big results. It’s free, fun, and packed with practical insights you can use right away. Sign up! https://lnkd.in/errpbTXr To your health and longevity!
