A lot has to happen in order to build a 290,000 SF school! For the past four months, the crew at our Hampstead, NC jobsite has been hard at work surcharging the building pad for the new Pender County K8 School. This 30-acre site presented a challenge with its soft, blue clay soil extending 10-20 feet below subgrade. To ensure the future school is secure and stable, the team has been compacting the land by importing an average of 3,000 cubic yards of dirt per day from an off-site pit. The team at Civil Works, Inc. recently started excavating on-site, and is moving around 1,000 cubic yards of dirt per day! Now that the weight of the #surcharge is equivalent to the weight of the future building, we let it sit for around three more months before removal. #ProjectUpdate #BuiltWithPurpose #BordeauxConstruction Pender County Schools - Moseley Architects - WithersRavenel - S&ME

Fort Fisher's Finishing Touches With the Grand Opening just around the corner, the project team at #FortFisher has been hard at work to finalize each and every detail. Paul Hock, Bordeaux Construction Project Engineer, reflects on yesterday's installation of the #cannon: “The cannon installation was very smooth; it only took around 30 minutes – but it required a 125’ crane with roughly 6,000 lbs of counterweight to be able to get it into location. The carriage had to sit on a “pintle block” (a concrete column with a cast iron pin about 2” wide on top). There was a hole for this pin under the carriage that was the same size. This took some precise positioning, but we were able to set it one smooth motion.” The building’s construction has been a meticulous process that combined historical sensitivity with cutting-edge engineering. It’s been an honor to help bring Clark Nexsen, CLH design, p.a., and the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources vision to life! Special thanks to CIVIL WORKS CONTRACTING for their expertise in this final stretch of the project. Stay tuned for the final unveiling!

School Buses on the Jobsite: Connecting with the Future of Construction Earlier this week, 162 fifth-grade students joined us for a day of #immersive learning at the construction site of the future PK-8 school in Enfield, located at the former Eastman School campus. Hosted by Bordeaux Construction, Raleigh Raised Development, and Halifax County Schools, the “Junior Contractors” were introduced to the beginning phases of #construction. Each segment of their tour focused on a different key element: ⚠️ First Stop: “Safety Zone” with Scotty Edwards 1️⃣ (Learning Zone 1) --> “Footings” with Namue Quemelen 2️⃣ (Learning Zone 2) --> “Below-Grade Masonry & Foundations” with Terrell Midgett and Morris Watson III 3️⃣ (Learning Zone 3) --> “Exterior Masonry Walls (and the crane!)” with Alex Herndon and Bobby Clark After students completed each learning zone, they gathered with Halifax County Schools Superintendent, Dr. Eric Cunningham to go over the students' post-fieldtrip #STEM challenge. Seeing the students’ excitement and curiosity grow as they saw their new school being built in real-time was especially rewarding to the adults who have been working hard to make it happen. This field trip not only allowed the students to witness the growth happening in their community, but also inspired them to imagine a future career in construction. We are grateful to all of the teachers, parents, administrators, and construction staff for making this experience a reality. We look forward to the next phase! #HalifaxRise #BordeauxConstruction #BuiltWithPurpose #EngineeringIsElementary #STEM #Construction #SafetyFirst

Last night, we had the honor of presenting to the North Carolina State University Engineers’ Council! This event was part of the group's Speaker Series, which gives NC State College of Engineering students and #AEC Industry leaders the opportunity to learn from one another. Blair Bordeaux, P.E. and Matthew Miller, PE, both licensed Professional Engineers, discussed how their Engineering degrees have positively influenced their careers in Construction. This industry is ever-changing, which makes consistent improvement of processes and experience with innovative technologies, such as #BIM, a “must”. Scotty Edwards emphasized the importance of Jobsite Safety, and Tia Rose spoke with students about potential careers at Bordeaux. Everyone from our presenting team was thrilled with the groups’ engagement and thoughtful questions throughout the event. We look forward to continuing to work with the Engineers’ Council! #BuiltWithPurpose #NCState #NCStateCollegeofEngineering #ncsuec #engineering #engineerscouncil #engineersinconstruction
