Boston Day and Evening Academy

Yesterday was BDEA's Annual Symposium event. We welcomed families and our full community to two hours of student presentations focused on learning and experience in our annual "Project Month" (PM). During PM students focus intensively on one project-based multidisciplinary course. See our flyer here for the full range of course offerings. The event concluded with the play Julius Caesar, developed in partnership with Actors' Shakespeare Project - and funded by a grant from Mass Cultural Council. Congratulations to all of our young scholars (and the teachers and staff who are well deserving of the upcoming break). We send our community warmest wishes for a restful holiday season and peace and connection as we close out the year.

Thank you to The Boston Foundation and United Way of Massachusetts Bay for the experience of participating in yesterday's meaningful convening to talk about high-quality, non-traditional options that offer a path to success for young people in Boston (and beyond). It was an honor to join in with Eli Pimentel, Norma Rey-Alicea, Marjorie Ringrose, and Erik Miller, representing Duet, NextGen Talent, RICHARD AND SUSAN SMITH FAMILY FOUNDATION, and Edward M. Kennedy Academy for Health Careers. May we all continue to raise up different and new ways to pursue high school, higher education and well-paying jobs for the future.

We are proud to celebrate our first in-school Beats Rhymes and Life Showcase! Beats Rhymes and Life Boston out of Children's Services of Roxbury, Inc. runs a career exploration course at BDEA. Students wrote and produced four original songs, and our Theater (Actors' Shakespeare Project) and Art classes worked together to design the set for the show. We recognize our student artists and performers, and we are deeply grateful for our partnership with these organizations.

And thank you for centering our inspiring scholars who are earning their high school diploma through BDEA 2.0 - our work-based, project-based program designed in 2018 around the needs of Black and Latino young men.

Today BDEA held it's first Annual College & Career Fair for our high school students, welcoming more 13 community partners, colleges and post-secondary access organizations. Starting with a panel during which teachers and staff shared information about their own academic and professional journeys, students participated in two learning workshops focused on their future. The event was put on by BDEA's Post Graduate Planning (PGP) office - an integral resource at our school, supporting students in an individualized manner to create a challenging and achievable plan for continued academic pursuits and professional success after BDEA.
