What you see with your eyes is not necessarily what’s going on in front of you. Actually, it’s your mind that instructs your eyes regarding what you see—or your mind's interpretation of what you see. And what your mind is seeing is based upon your unique experiences, values, desires, and beliefs. It’s not necessarily reality that you are seeing—𝙞𝙩’𝙨 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙘𝙚𝙥𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙛 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮. That’s why two people can witness exactly the same thing, and “see” two different things. Is it any wonder then that we often struggle on teams getting everyone on the same page? Frankly, it’s probably a miracle that we can ever get people on the same page! Seeing eye-to-eye is far more about our perceptions than it is about actual circumstances and events. At first this may be quite frustrating when trying to work together. But if you understand that the human brain will interpret what it sees from each person’s unique experiences, then you can choose to listen to each other to get a broader view of a situation, an idea, or a challenge. It actually magnifies your knowledge and understanding beyond anything that you could ever know or experience on your own. This is how we are able to optimize outcomes beyond expectations when we work together on teams. When you stop trying to convince others that your perspective is right and instead learn how others might see things differently, you will be able to leverage this human phenomenon to your team’s advantage. In Design-Build Done Right®, we define “𝙩𝙚𝙖𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙨 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜” and it’s one of the things that makes design-build so effective. #teamwork #teambuilding #leadership #designbuild

Bowdoin Construction is pleased to announce that Daniel Mcknight has been appointed to a new role as Bowdoin’s Director of Business Development. In this role, Dan will be focused on helping grow Bowdoin’s market share across our many business sectors and maintaining strong relationships with our valued clientele. He will be working closely with Executive Vice President Chris Keeley on strategic market growth initiatives, as well as with Director of Marketing and Communications Rebecca Lane Geary and Marketing Coordinator Gabrielle Raposo, who will continue supporting the firm with internal and external marketing initiatives to increase our visibility and tell the Bowdoin story. Dan graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston with a BA in Business Management and went on to earn his MS in Construction Management. He first joined Bowdoin as a co-op during his undergraduate years at Wentworth. After spending several years living in Indiana, he rejoined Bowdoin in early 2016 as Estimator and was promoted to Senior Estimator in 2022. Dan has continued his involvement with his alma mater, currently serving on Wentworth’s Construction Management Industry Advisory Board. Always seeking to expand his knowledge base, last year Dan earned his Passive House Certified Builder credentials. Well-connected in the construction industry, Dan’s frequent participation in networking and educational events and tradeshows will serve him well in his new role. Commenting on Dan’s promotion, Chris Keeley stated, “We look forward to supporting Dan as he furthers his career path with Bowdoin by taking on key Business Development responsibilities. We greatly appreciate his ongoing contributions to our firm’s overall growth and success.”
