Please join us in welcoming to the team, Ashley Hertzog! We are excited to announce the selection of Ashley to serve as the District Executive in the Red Wolf District. Her role as District Executive will be to provide leadership and support to the volunteers within the Red Wolf District with a focus on District Operations, Membership Recruiting, Unit Service, Friends of Scouting, and Product Sales. Ashley is a graduate of the University of North Texas where she received her degree in Business Administration. During her college career, she volunteered with the ScoutReach program in McKinney, TX to bring Scouting to at-risk communities. She has spent the last 15 years in sales within the Automotive and Industrial sectors. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, crafting, and volunteer-coaching her daughter’s cheer team!

Scouting for Food 2025 was a resounding success, with over 2,000 volunteers over both weekends, 11,000 service hours reported across 150 units, and OVER 111,000 pounds in food donations! Thousands of families across Houston will be fed thanks to everyone's hard work. We're grateful to all our units who participated this year, from Scouts to volunteers, you're all superstars!

At Scouting America, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to Congressman G.T. Thompson for reading a resolution into the House of Representatives honoring the enduring legacy of Scouting in America. We genuinely appreciate his leadership and commitment to Scouting’s values. We would also like to send a special thank you to Rep. Sanford Bishop, our co-chair of the Scouting Caucus, for his unwavering support and dedication to our cause. This morning, at the Key Leaders Conference, the Sam Houston Area Council recognized the 2024 class of Silver Beaver Award recipients. The Silver Beaver Award is the highest form of recognition that a local council can bestow on a volunteer. The award is given to those who implement the Scouting program and perform community service through hard work, self-sacrifice, dedication, and many years of service. This year’s class members are: John Cummings, Keith Landau, Amber Moncla, Dora Moreland, Jeremy Penner, Frederick Roberts, Erin Roberts, Dean Rogers, Gregory Stephens, Therese Wind, and Michael Woods. Congratulations to this year’s class of Silver Beaver Recipients! ⚜️

🚀 We have some out-of-this-world news to share! Yesterday, the Sam Houston Area Council officially partnered with NASA! This monumental partnership will offer SHAC Scouts unique educational opportunities and exclusive programming at our facilities, emphasizing the strong relationship between Scouting and STEM-based programs. Huge THANK YOU to Murphy Oil Corporation for partnering with us to change the lives of youth in our community! They will be participating in this year's Sporting Clay's event. Will your team? There is still time! SHAC is excited to host the 27th Annual Sporting Clays Tournament on October 17th, 2024 at the Greater Houston Sports Club in Houston, Texas. The day will include a clay shoot, sponsorship awards, shooter awards, door prizes, raffle boards, gun squares, food, beverages and much more.
