  • Chart Effort, Not Outcomes. Check out why 4x Illinois Coach of the Year Rob Brost explains why he “charts effort, not outcomes” … and examples of how to track it! That’s right… Instead of focusing on points, rebounds, assists, etc….from Rob Brost's Playing Offense At Uncomfortable Pace. Coach Brost charts “effort.” On top of that… he’ll often distribute playing-time according to how many “effort points” players earn. Why does he do this? Because by instilling the habits of hard work and high intensity early in the year… he’s been able to get his players to give maximum effort throughout the year. So, what exactly does he chart? Two things… 1) Whether a player beats their man (or the man guarding them) past half-court in transition… a concept he calls “win your race.” 2) Does the 3, 4, and 5 go for an offensive rebound on every play… if yes, they’ll get a “+”... if no, they’ll get a “-” Listen to Coach Brost go into more detail about why and how he “charts effort, not outcomes” early in the year. • Want A Disruptive, Dominant Defense? As a high school or college coach, building a championship defense is key to dominating your competition. And right now, you can get 30% off all of our top defensive programs (and the rest of the store) as part of our Black Friday sale. https://lnkd.in/eM2-We75 Whether you want to implement a high-pressure full-court press, control the pace of the game with a zone defense, or create chaos with disruptive tactics, we have the defensive systems to help you take your team to the next level. Check out our comprehensive defensive resources below and build the foundation for a defense that will leave opponents struggling to score: 1 - 1 - Looking for a defense that combines flexibility with pressure? The Match Up Zone Defense with Don Kelbick: This system combines the best aspects of man-to-man and zone defense, allowing you to adapt to various offensive threats. Coach Kelbick teaches you how to defend the ball, control the middle, and effectively cover your shooters, all while making it difficult for your opponent to find high-quality shots. This defense is versatile and can be adjusted to fit your personnel, whether you prefer a more conservative or aggressive style. 2 - Looking for an aggressive yet simple defensive strategy? The Man Left Defense with Rob Brost: This defense is a proven, straightforward system that applies consistent pressure while limiting your opponent’s offensive options. It’s based on the philosophy of forcing your opponent to their weak hand, taking away what they do best. With step-by-step instructions, you’ll learn how to use this defense effectively, from trapping to guarding the perimeter. 3 - Want to control the pace of the game with a zone defense? The Outer ⅓ Zone Defense with Nick LoGalbo: This defense puts pressure on the outside while clogging the lane, forcing your opponents to take uncomfortable shots. It’s ideal for high school and college teams looking to disrupt offensive flow and create turnover opportunities. 4 - Need a dynamic full-court press to stifle your opponent’s offense? The 2-2-1 Press with Rob Beucler: The 2-2-1 press is one of the most effective full-court presses in basketball. It creates chaos and puts immediate pressure on the ball handler. This program teaches you how to implement the press, including drills for trapping and recovery. 5 - Want to introduce a disruptive defense that’s hard to prepare for? The 31 Defense with Will Rey (1-3-1 Zone Defense): The 31 Defense is a versatile and aggressive defense that’s perfect for confusing opponents. This 1-3-1 defense takes away easy passes, creating indecision in the offense.  Coach Will Rey shows you how to ramp up or back the pressure depending on your personnel and that of your opponent.
