🚧 Heavy Lift Bridge Removal - Southern Illinois University Edwardsville 🚧 Brewster Companies recently utilized a GMK7550 550-ton crane to remove the precast concrete beams from a deteriorating bridge at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) at North University Drive over the Norfolk Southern Railroad. Each beam measured 53 feet long and weighed 40,000 lbs., requiring precise rigging and controlled lifts to safely extract them from the existing structure. Once lifted, the beams were carefully rotated and lowered onto waiting transport for removal. This operation required close coordination between the crane operator, rigging crew, and ground personnel to execute each lift efficiently while maintaining safety as the top priority. Yesterday, one of our fellow employees experienced a devastating house fire. Thankfully, everyone is safe, but they’ve lost everything. As a company, we’ve provided temporary housing and started collecting funds and household items to support them as they rebuild. Right now, they urgently need essential care items like clothing, toiletries, coats, socks, feminine hygiene products, and non-perishable food. In the coming weeks, they’ll also need housewares and furniture.
