Bridge Boston is a public charter school that opened in the fall of 2011 serving children in Roxbury and the surrounding community – many of whom have experienced emotional, social, and developmental barriers to learning. In the 2019-2020 school year we will reach maturity with 335 students in pre-Kindergarten through grade 8. We believe the most effective way to lift children out of poverty is by equipping them with an excellent education. With a longer school day and school year, we are able to provide academic rigor, a commitment to nurture the whole child, and a breadth of full-service programming to remove obstacles to knowledge acquisition.

Recently, a potential candidate asked, "What's the difference between working for a district public school and a charter public school?" Here's our Executive Director Orin Gutlerner's response: It’s Different Here. (That’s the slogan the Boston Celtics adopted for this season’s playoff run.) The answer probably starts with the fact that charter schools are required to articulate – and live by – a #mission statement. And the more clear a school is about its mission, the more likely it is to attract people who come to work with a common set of #values. In contrast, schools in big districts are not necessarily obligated to have a unique mission or specialization. In many cases, they’re actively discouraged from being different. But as a charter school, we literally can’t remain open if we’re not in some way different, as defined by our mission statement. Here's what the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has to say about our faithfulness to our mission: Board members, school leaders, and teachers described the school’s mission in ways that reflect a common understanding. All stakeholders described how the school aims to nurture a community that is inclusive and joyful through the school’s jaguar values and schoolwide events.
