Happy America Recycles Day! Did you know Oregon's recycling system is getting a major overhaul? Thanks to the Recycling Modernization Act, big changes are on the way to make recycling easier, more consistent, and effective for everyone in the state! Here’s what you can expect: Standardized Recycling Lists: No more guesswork—recycling programs across Oregon will accept the same materials. Producer Responsibility: Companies that make packaging will help cover the costs of recycling, encouraging them to use more sustainable materials. Expanded Services: Access to recycling will improve statewide, making it easier for rural and urban communities to participate. Together, we can reduce waste and build a system that truly works for the environment and Oregonians. Stay tuned for updates as these changes roll out over the next few years! We are excited to announce that BRING has been awarded our organization's first US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) grant. This funding will allow us to develop a statewide network of green business programs in Oregon! By leveraging the successful Rethink Business certification model and collaborating with other technical assistance providers throughout the state, we can expand program access to rural communities and gather valuable data on how sustainable business practices can reduce harmful environmental impacts. From EPA Region 10: "Good news! BRING in Oregon was selected to receive a $152,520 Pollution Prevention #P2 program grant to create a statewide network of member agencies that share knowledge on P2 methods and best practices. They will establish a shared online platform through the Greenbiz Tracker to measure and report on environmental impact, develop a network to innovate and share knowledge of best practices with rural communities, and incentivize business participation."

Yesterday was my first experience at the Oregon Coast Visitors Association's People's Coast Summit in Florence, OR! Huge thanks to Finn Johnson for giving me the opportunity to share my Oregon Applied Sustainability Experience: Internship Program and discuss future partnerships to enhance sustainability in the hospitality industry. I'm excited to see what is to come as environmental technical assistance becomes available to coastal communities.

Jamie McMurray, an #OASEIntern at BRING Recycling and Oregon Coast Visitors Association, writes: As my internship ends, I'm proud to have taken on the role of a technical assistance provider. Initially intimidated by the leadership role in marine debris management, I built confidence through research and guidance from mentors. This preparation allowed me to effectively communicate the importance of balancing environmental conservation with business priorities, painting the picture of responsibility and stewardship to each hospitality client. I look forward to developing my expertise in waste management during my final year of college and future career in sustainability consulting! Jamie is participating in the Oregon Applied Sustainability Experience: Internship Program, which is run by Oregon Sea Grant and the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality.
