Have you heard it's our 10 Year Anniversary? Well, it is. And we're celebrating! All year long, we'll be looking through the archives, sharing our favorite moments, lessons, and insights from the past decade—during which we've gone from a blog post to a global community of AEC stakeholders that includes many of the industry's most innovative and influential thought leaders and decision makers. One of the accomplishments we're most proud of is in the development of our research program, which provides user insights into myriad tech categories and capabilities. While typically a benefit exclusive to our members, in celebration of our 10 Year Anniversary, we wanted to give the greater AEC community a chance to explore and hopefully learn from and apply one of our annual benchmarking reports. With that in mind, we invite any and all to please check out our 2023 Project Management & Oversight Report: https://lnkd.in/g8MU22nT In it, readers will find actionable data into the tech solutions available for enterprise resource planning, business intelligence and data analytics, accounting and payment, and collaboration and document management. Enjoy!

It used to be said that robotics would never work in construction because the process isn't repeatable/predictable enough. What should have been said is that robotics wouldn't work yet. Construction isn't like manufacturing, which has been successfully using robotics for the past several decades (to great effect, we might add—just look at manufacturing's huge productivity gains over the same time period). It's subject to countless variables, some of which contractors and workers may have little to no control over (like the weather or site conditions). But while robotic technology may not have made sense for construction 40 years ago, or really even 10 years ago, it makes sense today (or at least makes a lot more sense). Today there are robots that can lay bricks, install product, move earth, demolish structures, provide project updates, and much more. There are robots that walk, fly, and move on wheels. There is an entire industry rapidly expanding to meet the growing needs and demands for robots in construction. It's a good thing for the industry to have more opportunity and options for improving jobsite productivity. But it's an admittedly tough thing for contractors to have to navigate and furthermore understand the growing complexities of those opportunities and options. During our 'Automating Construction and Maximizing Efficiency with Robotic Solutions' panel as part of our upcoming Construction Tech Conference in Chicago, BuiltWorlds Research Analyst Audrey Lynch will lead robotic and construction experts from BotBuilt, PERI, Illinois Institute of Technology, and Formant in a discussion about the evolution of robotic solutions in construction as well as what and where the opportunities are for using robots to increase efficiency, productivity, safety and more on the jobsite. "In a world where digital communication is the norm, there's something uniquely powerful about face-to-face interactions. While working digitally through online meetings and emails is incredibly efficient and allow us to connect globally with ease, there’s a unique magic that happens when we finally meet in person." This. We love the flexibility digital and virtual communications allows, but there is no true substitute (at least not yet) to meeting face to face. That is why we create spaces for AEC stakeholders to come together, network, share ideas and learn. See our full schedule of upcoming events here: https://lnkd.in/gEzU_qG

"The exhibition and pitch session were splendidly organized, and the feedback we received at Kontrad highlights the pressing need for our AI-based competitive tender management system for project contracts. "The edifying panel discussions on AI yesterday were particularly inspiring! They bolstered our efforts to provide our customers with even more granular information and metrics on bidders' compliance with key tender requirements, including critical issues such as alignment with complex CO2 emission regulations." We love hearing this kind of feedback about our events. I think we can officially say the 2024 Paris Summit was a huge hit!

If there was any doubt about the level of innovation currently being developed in the AEC industry, yesterday's Demo Night Competition should have effectively quashed it. Generously hosted by Bouygues Construction, who also hosted the day's Building Tech Research Track and Venture Forum meetings as well as a post-competition reception, the 2024 Paris Summit Demo Night shined a spotlight on 10 of industry's leading edge startups: Alrik, Cassette, ConcR | Smart Monitoring, DataForm Lab, GScan, Kontrad, LumenCache, WakeCap, PrīmX, and ECODROP. The technologies presented spanned a wide, diverse spectrum of problem solving, showcasing stand out innovations in an industry relatively rife with it. We saw an emphasis on ESG, offsite construction, advanced materials, practical applications of AI, and quicker, more accurate data collection and tracking. But while each of our competitors made compelling pitches and stood poised in responding to our judges' meticulous scrutiny, there could only be one winner. And that was GScan. GScan is a groundbreaking, AI-powered technology that relies on certain naturally occurring subatomic particles (ie, muons, electrons and positrons) to scan structures and materials (up to 20 meters thick), visualize them in 3D, and produce a chemical composition analysis, from which a wealth of information can be gleaned. Please join us in celebrating GScan as well as all of our Demo Nigh competitors, and thanking Bouygues Construction, whose generosity was integral to this event's overwhelming success.

The Paris heatwave is a scorcher. But it's nothing compared to the inferno the US power grid is facing. At the #BuiltWorlds Paris Summit, I laid bare the brutal truth: our centralized energy system is a dinosaur, gasping for air as climate change intensifies. We're talking rolling blackouts, skyrocketing copper prices, and a looming "train wreck" in critical mineral supply chains. This isn't just about inconvenience – it's about lives on the line. The Texas winter storm is a chilling reminder of what happens when the lights go out for good. But there's a silver lining. We're on the cusp of a decentralized energy revolution – a power shift that could rewrite the rules of the game. Microgrids, low-voltage DC power, and innovative companies like LumenCache are showing us a path forward. It's a high-stakes race against time. The chessboard is set, the pieces are moving. Are you ready to play your part in this energy revolution? #EnergyTransition #RenewableEnergy #Microgrids #ClimateChange #Sustainability #BuiltWorlds #BESummit24 Leonardo Rocchetti Guillaume Bazouin Olivier LEPINOY Gout Sean Wrenn Luis Amorim Hassan Albalawi, PhD Allen Preger Gabriel Cuervo Raymond Levitt Aaron Anderson Cutler Knupp Mauricio Tessi Weiss Cameron Mabley Karim Abdel-Ghaffar Plaza Nicholas Kuhn Will Chung Antonia Elisa Soler Blasco J.P. And that’s a wrap on BuiltWorlds' 2024 Paris Summit! Builtworlds is the leading platform connecting construction, technology & investment leaders around the world, engaging millions of stakeholders online through community news and with approximately 300 of the sector’s leading companies through its research network (peer groups, research, conferences). Members have committed more than €4bn capital for investments in construction & property technology, employ more than 2.3 million people worldwide and have annual turnover of more than €1.1 trillion, globally. Four days of conversing about the future of #construction with our industry peers, such as Vinci, Ferrovial, Saint-Gobain, Cemex, Dassault Systèmes, Hilti and many more. Including 1 day of sharing the latest industry trends, innovations and startup pitches hosted at Bouygues offices by Bouygues Construction. I had the pleasure of hearing my colleagues at Bouygues Construction and peers at BuiltWorlds Paris Summit during their insightful panels, which highlighted one core principle that is at the very heart of all that we do: #innovation. Innovation by building new construction methods such as BRYCK to optimize building conception and rethink fundamental building elements like elevator shafts. Stemming from a partnership with Dassault Systèmes, BRYCK integrates modular building components, off-site construction, digitalization and logistics to enhance productivity while reducing environmental impact. Innovation by investing in early-stage startups to support the transformation of our industry. At the Paris Summit, we spotlighted our active engagement in the European ;#ConTech startup ecosystem, aiming to empower startups to advance their solutions through our scale-up program, #ScaleOne, and our partnering programs with co-financing efforts. To strengthen the French construction ecosystem, we are proud and excited to be a founding member of Contech France, which launched on Tuesday 25th June 2024. Are you prepared for AI in construction? What does it even mean to be prepared? And if you are prepared, what's the real benefit of that? How is AI going to actually, in real-world terms, help your business? These are questions you may have heard before, maybe to the point of tedium, but chances are you don't have clear answers. Artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies with construction-specific applications are being developed and subsequently proliferated with such speed that it would be hard for anyone not steeped in the technology to follow along. In our 'Smart Foundations: Preparing for AI and ML Integration in Construction' panel, slated for Day 2 of our fast approaching Construction Tech Conference in Chicago, BuiltWorlds Research Analyst Sofie Richardson will lead a panel of experts from GRAITEC GROUP, Autotech Ventures, Ryan Companies US, Inc. and Slate Technologies Inc. in a compelling exploration of the challenges and opportunities of AI/ML technologies tailored to construction, from predictive analytics to autonomous equipment, and how attendees can integrate them into existing workflows to expand capabilities and improve or create efficiencies.
