About us

The Bulgarian-American Congress is a non-partisan policy research not-for-profit organization dedicated to representing the interests of Bulgarian Americans in the United States and continuing the struggle for a free, democratic, and independent Bulgaria. Since our founding in January 2023 by President Pete Kristofferson, a former Bulgarian diplomat, the Bulgarian Congress's perspective has been uniquely future-oriented and optimistic. The founder envisioned an entity that would represent the interests of both people and countries in a world dramatically transformed by several challenges in security, international affairs, diplomacy, international trade, and business. Today, the Bulgarian American Congress in the United States is an “umbrella” organization – a federation of Bulgarian American clubs, organizations, and associations. The Bulgarian American Congress in the United States adopted two complementary agendas: the Bulgarian one – to help Bulgaria in its great hour of need, and the American one – to unite the Bulgarian American Community and to aid its members to become better informed American citizens. Our broad-based approach allows us to present well-timed recommendations to leaders in government, regulatory compliance, and business, domestically as well as abroad. Today, as part of our research agenda, we are developing programs of political and geoeconomic reform to transform our world and the better representation of the Bulgarian community in the United States.

  • 27th Annual Veterans Day Ceremony November 11th, 2024 Military Women`s Memorial First started as a celebration of the end of WWI, Veterans Days has since become a time set aside to honor all American veterans. It was originally called Armistice Day and was celebrated for the first time on November 11, 1919, exactly one year to the day after the shooting stopped in Europe. To mark the moment, churches held special services and soldiers paraded. People across the country observed two minutes of silence in remembrance of soldiers who had lost their lives. Armistice Day was officially named by Congress in 1926, and it became a national holiday 12 years later. But the "armistice" didn't live up to the hope that there would never be another world war. To honor veterans of every conflict, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed a bill in 1954 to change the name from Armistice Day to Veterans Day. In 1968, a law passed allowing a Veterans Day to be celebrated each year on the fourth Monday in October. In response to strong feelings about the original date, Congress, in 1978, changed Veterans Day back to the original date of November 11. From that day at the end of wWl, on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, came a day of observance of all the women and men, living and dead, who took up arms in defense of America. The Military Women's Memorial, has become a traditional site for observing this day for all of America's veterans. The Bulgarian Congress of the United States is proud of being part of all the celebrations dedicated to the Military Women’s Service. Looking ahead- preserving our past, forging our future! From this very special place - the Military Women’s Memorial at the Arlington National Cemetery- we express our deep gratitude and appreciation to all these women patriots and heroes who have preserved our freedoms. 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
