When business owners and city leaders have honest conversations, real change happens!
B Local San Diego 🤝 Business For Good San Diego So great to join Business for Good San Diego's general member meeting tonight to hear from San Diego City Council President Joe LaCava about the state of our city government. We had dialogue about topics ranging from homelessness and affordable housing, to Sea World fireworks and storm drains. Grateful for city leaders who engage the community and share perspectives with vulnerability. This is what it looks like for business to take an active role in local change!

Thank you to San Diego City Council President Joe LaCava for joining our February General Member Meeting last night! In a candid discussion about current challenges facing our city—from housing and homelessness to infrastructure and small business support—Council President LaCava emphasized the power of in-person advocacy and shared valuable insights on how business owners can effectively engage with local government. Key takeaway: When it comes to influencing local policy, showing up in person remains the most powerful way to make your voice heard. Council President LaCava understands how challenging it can be to navigate city government, which is why he emphasized that learning how to frame your asks in “city speak” is crucial for getting the responses you need. And if you’re not getting responses from your Council Member, don’t hesitate to reach out to his office—accountability matters! This is exactly why our monthly Advocacy Committee meetings are so vital—they help us understand which policies are directly impacting our members so we can effectively mobilize and advocate on their behalf. When we show up together as business owners, our collective voice becomes a powerful catalyst for change. As a self-described “cynical optimist,” Council President LaCava left us feeling energized about the potential for positive change when business owners organize and engage with local government. This is exactly why we bring elected officials directly to our General Member Meetings—to create meaningful dialogue between business owners and policymakers and learn how to be most effective in driving thoughtful policy that improves San Diego County for all. #BusinessForGoodSD #SanDiego #SanDiegoAdvocacy #sandiegogov
