Happy one year of Threads!! In honor of its anniversary, I wrote an analysis about how I think the platform has fared since last July, and what might happen down the line. Instagram has played a huge role in Threads' success, but what if they two were no longer linked? In fact, executives at Meta, including Instagram head Adam Mosseri, have said they want the app to become more independent. Some creators are excited for that to happen. "The app will actually be better when it's treated as its own discussion platform," creator Francis Dominic told me. However, Threads hasn't really found its own voice yet, and EMARKETER's principal analyst Jasmine Enberg said that could hinder its growth if it breaks away from Instagram. "Threads does not have a fully formed identity; we don't know what it is, and I don't necessarily think that Meta knows exactly what it wants to do with it either," she said.
